Re: Can this be fixed ? Is it worth fixing ?

From the photos, it looks like the air inlet is too small. Could be wrong... But would heat be lost out that firebox door glass? If possible, I'd replace the firebox door with a thick peice of steel plate... With an adjustable air inlet slider. I like my air inlets to be oversized, for when you are ...

Re: Pictures of your smoker

Insulated firebox, 2" kaowool all round Insulated cook chamber, 1" kaowool, but doors and bottom of cook chamber are just 5mm steel plate. Warmer box on the end.. just gets ambient heat from stack/steel, no opening to cook chamber. Still a lot of work to go. New trailer Insulated doors Handles Gas b...

Re: Minion Basket Build

Yeah, you need to have a fair bit of lit charcoal to maintain heat in an offset, especially when the cook chamber is 47*23*23"

But mine is insulated with kaowool.. so it does hold heat okay!

Re: Minion Basket Build

My idea is to start with a mix.. A bed of lit charcoal to get it going, starting with small bits of wood, working to larger wood. Once it starts getting close to bed time, I'd drag the exisiting grate out and slot in a minion basket, with one end lit. My smoker is insulated, so it should only need r...

Minion Basket Build

Hello BBQ frens. I am super keen to build a minion basket for my smoker. The idea of set and forget (sleep) is too good to pass up. I've attached the spec of the size I can work with building a basket.. I was wondering if any of you have advice, hints tips, what not to do? All I have had a bit of tr...

Re: Trailer Rectangular Offset Smoker plans

The cook went really well. I'm loving the bigger fire box and the tight air controls. I find that a slight adjustment to one air baffle results in an almost immediate adjustment of the cook chamber temperature It doesn't take long for the cooker to get up to temp, and it holds the temp well. Takes a...

Re: Trailer Rectangular Offset Smoker plans

My smoke stack is the correct volume according to the feldon calculator, but I'm starting to wonder if I've chosen too large a throat for the stack..

At a glance, do you think this will provide the draw needed?

Re: Trailer Rectangular Offset Smoker plans

The chimney is fitted to the beast now - and we've mounted the air dampener - its starting to look like a smoker now!! However we're up to the point where I'll be scheduling in a sand blasting, and then painting. I have some high temp paint I purchased, but on the tin its states I need to bake the p...

Re: Trailer Rectangular Offset Smoker plans

Poor little trailer looks a tad overwhelmed... Lol yeah.. the suspension is rated pretty high and should take it all okay. Not sure about the axle though. It would be a lot nicer had we started with a dual axle trailer! I might look at shifting the smoker onto a better trailer in future. there is s...

Re: Trailer Rectangular Offset Smoker plans

Heres a pic of the firebox door, showing the inside. Its got almost 2 inches of kaowool insulation in there. I guess it is somewhat braced from the inside? Can easily frame the outside of the door as well if you guys think it would help. Might look a little better as well.. seems a bit 'boring' just...

Re: Trailer Rectangular Offset Smoker plans

A few pics.. showing the stack exit from cook chamber, how it flows through the warmer and out the top.

Also showing how I got the base plate folded a little, so fat runs down to a pipe which im fitting a ball valve to.

Lots of welds to clean up... and some other tidy up work to do hah
