I moved mine to the side opposite the fire box. No chance of dripping​ on the food there.

I would say no unless you're making it significantly larger. With my controller attached I can get it up to 350 no problem.

The size was just adjusted to match the changed over all height of the cooler. Since I only used 1/4" steel and had it plasma cut I was able to combine a few of the pieces too.

I run the Pit Viper fan with a HeaterMeter and 1.5" pipe on my smoker. Once it's up to temp the fan only runs at 5-10% to maintain temp so I'd say it's more than enough. The 1.5" tube too.

Seasoned it at 350 degrees on Saturday then cooked some pork overnight that was ready Sunday afternoon. I've got a little over $500 into project materials and parts so far. Just have the 16ga sheet metal left to be made. Hopefully I'll be under $800 by the end.
