Re: whole hog first timer

Just finished cooking my third hog on my reverse flow since my last post. All three have been very good. I did all three butterflied and belly down, cooked at 250. The skin does not get crispy, but the meat is outstanding. Been using a mixture of lump mesquite charcoal and pecan wood. Cooking the sh...

Re: first build 30x60 hybrid

Working on the door. Bottle Jack, chain, and heat. Actually came around a little too much. Thanks for the encouragement. Am I doing this correctly?

whole hog first timer

My son son wants me to do a whole hog on a 30x60 hybrid I'm finishing up. I have never cooked on a cooker this big and I have never cooked a whole hog before. I have been doing some research on it, but I know that experience is the best teacher. If there are any old sages out there, I could use some...

Re: first build 30x60 hybrid

I am putting strap on the inside of my door openings. Should I run a solid bead around the inside of the strap to seal the opening or spot weld and then seal with gasket caulking?

Re: first build 30x60 hybrid

What size angle iron should I use for a 48x28 rack? I plan to smoke up to 150 lbs on it.

first build 30x60 hybrid

Starting my first smoker build, a 30x60 hybrid. I have a new piece of 30" steel pipe that has a Brown protective coating inside and out. Do I need to get this off of the inside and, if so, what is the best method. I started sanding and wire brushing it, but it seems pretty tough. Any advice is appre...

Firebox Ground Clearance

I am starting my first build with the FFMS Lonestar Special. What is the recommended ground clearance for the FB on a smoker trailer? There is a 19 1/4" drop from the bottom of the CC to the bottom of the FB. I am trying to keep the bottom CC rack in the work zone.

Re: Hello from the Cali "lurker"

Here are a couple pics of the inside. It does a pretty nice job of grilling. I will do some modifications on the next one to allow a spit to be used for a whole pig.

Hello from the Cali "lurker"

I am not really new to this site. I am one of those people Frank refer to as a "lurker". You know, one of those people that wants to play in the game but can't seem to get themselves off the bench. In my case, it has been more that life seems to constantly be interfering with my plans. I inherited a...
