Re: The Great Smoker Build (275-gal. fuel oil tank)

The FB is the part that will do all the warping really. Under the BP will run around 500 degrees but above it down to your cooking temperature so no warping to the CC happens. The area just above the FB on the end of the CC gets very hot, but offset smokers tend to have a very hot FB and normal CC ...

Re: The Great Smoker Build (275-gal. fuel oil tank)

Nice! Do you really think you need to do that much welding? I only weld the outside. At about 4000# per inch there should be plenty of weld. In my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Well, I'm only using 11 gauge steel and I got a little spooked/intimidated by all these smokers I see being ...

Re: The Great Smoker Build (275-gal. fuel oil tank)

I got my firebox mostly welded to the tank this weekend, I've still got to crawl inside and double pass weld the inside seams for the top (not at all fun when you're flux-core welding), then do the outsides of the seams so I can grind them down for beauty purposes. I might do the door first, but we'...

Re: Vertical location of chimney

Thanks guys, you answered one of my questions. My second question as it refers to stack height is: When measuring stack height is the calculation from the top of the fire box? From the exit point of the smoker, if it's the side? From the top of the smoker? As of yet I haven't found an answer to this...

Re: 275 oil tank on a trailer build

Great work on your build, eventually mine will be on a trailer too but I'm building the smoker on the ground then I'll build the trailer in the late winter/early spring to mount the smoker onto. I live in Indiana and I'm trying to get my 275-gallon smoker done before the snow flies too. At least tha...

The Great Smoker Build (275-gal. fuel oil tank)

I guess I've been working on my smoker build for a couple months now, it doesn't really seem that long but I ran into some problems with the fuel tank I got, there was a rather large area of rust on the end where the firebox is going that I had a difficult time patching but patched it is and I've go...

Circle Segment Calculator

I'm building a smoker out of a 275 gallon fuel oil tank and I was trying to figure out how far up from the bottom of my tank I needed to cut the opening to attach my firebox onto the side to achieve ~178.18" sq.. First I had to figure out what a partial circle in the way we cut our openings is calle...

Introduction

Hi, Everybody! I'm a long time smoker but I'm currently working on my first smoker build and learning to weld at the same time. I've been making pretty good progress working on my 275 gallon fuel oil tank (oval) smoker, a lot of what I've learned to this point has been learned on YouTube and a littl...
