Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

Thanks for the reassurance. Rod, in regard to the holes in the end plate, my intakes are on either side of the fb, you can see where I've placed them in the first pic in my previous post. Are you referring to having intakes in the door? I wanted to go with this style of fb for the benefit of having ...

Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

What do you guys think of a round bottom fire basket design? I'm calling on the experts to check my dimensions that this thing isn't too small. So far about 99% of the critics around the shop have said my FB looks to small. http://i.imgur.com/V8vB36J.png Direct link to enlarged image: http://i.imgur...

Re: Understanding the pit calc

Putting the intake below the fire is standard operation. You don't have to put the bricks in the bottom either, I'm assuming you could stick them in the back or run them up the sides, or just anywhere they won't interfere with airflow. If you could line the top plate that would be most efficient if ...

I'm not a pro, I haven't even built my smoker yet, but I have some thoughts. 1) I have a 25 gallon propane tank I'm using for my RF smoker. I've used the tank calculator and it says my volume is 29.1 gallons, can that be right? I DON'T KNOW, but have you cut the tank open yet? Are you able to fill i...

Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

Is there a reason that you have a square stack, just got me thinking is a round stack better than square ? I just drew it square, haven't built it yet. I assumed that I'll end up using a square stack simply because we have a bunch of square tubing laying around the yard here. I've asked the questio...

I think that is more distance then mine would have, if you look at the drawing from my first post that can give you a better idea of distance.

Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

Yeah the radiant heat will be a problem, you'll have a fair bit of heat coming off the FB & pneumatic tyres don't like heat that much. I was thinking they would be about this proximity from jwsimpleville's build: http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff479/Tj_Wrangler_SC/21_Reverse_Flow_Smoker/IMG_20...

Got some work done when I could find the time. Got the fb/bp tacked up and ready to slide in to place: http://i.imgur.com/HFqASUZ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/MyQJmH8.jpg Then we beat the fb walls square, tacked the "back" piece of the fb in place, then welded it out. Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

From the top, even if you come out the side. One thing to consider when a stack is short, the smoke may be in your eyes more than it has to be. Don't let me discourage you I just want to point it out. It will work just fine. I made my back yard stack removable so I could use store bought grill cove...

I've got a recommended chimney length of 14 3/4" for a 4" pipe, I'm planing on starting my stack in the center of the cooker rather than the top. From which point do I start the 14 3/4" measurement?

20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

I've finally gotten some materials in and am getting ready to start building this thing. I've gotten hold of a rusty 20" OD x 36" x 3/8" pipe and have designed the rest of the smoker around that. Per suggestions in another thread I am not even going to use my second piece of pipe for a firebox and h...

What size drain pipe/ball valve are people using? Also, still wondering on anyone's suggestions for frame size for a 500lb smoke. It'll probably be angle iron, I know that at least.

Alright, time to draw the cart. What size material would y'all recommend for the cart? Angle iron or tubes, etc? I'm looking at 500 lbs in the smoker it self right now.

Re: Critique My Design

I think I read somewhere someone recommend that the firebox have a 24" dimension so as to accommodate the length of splits. For a small patio cooker like mine that would make for a really long, coffin shaped firebox, I drew it up and it's not very aesthetically pleasing. The inside dimensions of suc...

Re: Critique My Design

I think you should square the FB where it connects to the CC in order to get the proper throat opening. Using two cylinders to create the design dictates a football shaped throat. So to change one of these shapes the volume of each must be calculated to get the correct size. Sent from my iPhone usi...

I would recommend that you be careful laying out the throat opening doing it with a flat top on a round FB.
