Yes sir, the firebox will be on the opposite end of the door, and the stack will be above that. I started another thread in the RF section to document the build. Thanks.

Re: The Swine Furnace

If you cap the end of the opening you could add a stack using a saddle cut behind the flange. That's a good idea. I was also of thinking of cutting the flanged pipe at 45° and then welding the upright on that's also cut at 45°. Right now I'm leaning more towards cutting it off completely and cappin...

I like it, looks like plenty of room for wood, a cooler, and maybe a box for tools and stuff.

It is double walled, it's actually a jacket. water was run into that jacket to help cool it. Even the door is double walled.

I still don't even know how thick each wall is. I won't know until I cut or drill into it. My guess is .25" for each one.

Re: The Swine Furnace

What are you planning on cutting the tank with? I have a plasma cutter, but I am pretty sure it will not even sever this stainless. So most likely a 4 1/2" angle grinder and some smith and arrow cut-off wheels. It's gonna be a bear, i imagine i may throw out some choice words at her at some point, ...

Re: The Swine Furnace

The stack length spit out by the calculator is the total length necessary to creat the proper volume to draw properly, the volume is the key number. Having said that, I have never heard anyone alter the length of their stack due to the volume created by the elbow? That is a pretty good question. Se...

Re: The Swine Furnace

From what I can tell by the pics, it looks like that flange on the opposite end from the door is dead center. If that is the case, then that should put it at or above the level of the lowest cooking grate. While I am certainly no expert, my opinion is that you should be able to make it work for you...

Re: The Swine Furnace

This is going to be an awesome project. I saw you discussing whether or not to close off the flanges, I have an illness with having to be unique, those flanges and the opening end definitely make that vessel unique. The flanges are not ideally located, but I think you could possibly make the end on...

Re: The Swine Furnace

Your FB volume is in the right range, normally between 105%-110% for most guys. I like the stack tall enough to keep the smoke out of my eyes but not too tall to fit through the garage door. Some guys have removable stacks because of the overall height. Man I just keep getting more ideas to add to ...

Re: The Swine Furnace

I went back over some of my notes and measurements and plugged everything into the pit calc. How do these numbers look? (Attachment at bottom) Is there any general consensus regarding whether a shorter wider diameter chimney or taller smaller diameter chimney is better? Is that just a can of worms? ...

Re: The Swine Furnace

Based on your dims it's ~175 gallon tank. With a throat area of ~111 you'll need to have the BP at ~6.25" high. This is exactly what I needed to know. I'll of course double check My measurements of this thing but that seems about right as far as volume. I just checked out your calculators, great re...

Re: The Swine Furnace

She's big 'n heavy. This is definitely going to be an interesting build. It would be nice if you could use those top brackets for the BP. Are the centre ones able to be removed? The plate with 12 pieces of pipe. Do those pipes go all the way through? That would be a bugger if they do. If they do, p...

I began this project over in the introduction section. You can see more pictures and see where this thing came from there. http://smokerbuilder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=5717 I decided on a RF design for this build after some brainstorming and research. And smoker building. ...... Making memories! Indeed. And I was successful in that endeavor! He told me to find a good used one and he'd buy it. Well I got it moved to where I will be working on it this morning. I also weighed it. 1400lbs of stainless piggie furnace. I have decided on a reverse flow...

WOW,just WOW Can't wait to see how this one unfolds! And welcome! Yeah,if you're gonna do a RF, you'd need to cap or cut off and plug the vents. As far as the exhaust, the jury is still out on that. Some say it should be high, others say keep it low for more stable temps. I say work with what you got...

Re: Hey y'all I have a very unique start for my first build

I'm thinking some of those flanges might be great access for thermo probes etc. A little swing gate on them to close them off if not in use... And it would be nice to be able to use the end flange for a stack, but I'm thinking it might be a tad low. Some of the more savvy guys with reverse flow stu...

Re: Hey y'all I have a very unique start for my first build

That has so many possibilities. I'd keep the door and have the trays sliding out of it. Might have to put stops along the way to ensure trays don't tilt. Absolutely awsome project. Can't wait to see pics of how you tackle it. And nice score on the vacuum chamber. Thanks, and yes the door is staying...

Re: Hey y'all I have a very unique start for my first build

If you took the door off and made that the FB end then use the opening at the end for a stack you could do a traditional offset. You could possibly do a CF if the opening on the side is large enough. This is definitely an option, but I'd really like to keep the door if possible. I think it adds to ...

Re: Hey y'all I have a very unique start for my first build

Stewart, thanks for the welcome! I know that I want 2-3 sliding racks. My main concerns are whether the current inlets can be utilized at all or if I need to cut and cap them. Right now I am thinking of doing a reverse flow with firebox at the rear. This design would make all the inlets on this thin...

Hey y'all I have a very unique start for my first build

I figured it was time to introuce myself since I am about to start a build thread. My name is Justin and I am a smoked meat addict. I'm 29 years old and happily married, no kids, at least not any 2 legged ones. I am no stranger to BBQ, My very first real job was at a BBQ restaurant when I was 15. I ...
