Re: Reverse flow hybrid smoker: vertical smoking chamber question.

*Sunday cook* been experimenting with this rig since I completed it. I can run it traditional offset with even temps across all 3 chambers, or reverse flow with only the middle chamber, or reverse flow with the middle chamber and left vertical. I also cut a port on top of the firebox in case I want ...

Do you run your smoker on charcoal only?

Re: Center feed tube build

So each side will share the one exhaust stack? I anticipated that you would put exhaust vents on each side. But that would be more work than you envisioned. Hope it works out bro.

Re: Newbie getting ready to cut the doors....

On the trailer, had it not been a bolted together harbor freight trailer, I would attempt to strengthen it like you suggested. Since it's a harbor freight cheapie I would do like the others suggested. Sell it ,or keep it and find an old utility trailer on craigslist to add steel cross members to. Se...

Well, it's at least unique and looks good. Get it tuned and you'll have a one if a kind smoker.

Re: 60x24 RF Build

That was one of my top concerns when building my rig, being top heavy. I seem to remember a mention of a formula for determining whether any trailer is top heavy, maybe one of the guys will chime in. My rig weighs 1800 lbs and is placed to one side on a 5 ft wide trailer. After taking it on two 25+ ...

Re: Guess it's time I did this.

Welcome! That's a nice looking rig. The planning stages are always the hardest. Maybe you could make a list of things you want from a smoker and then select the unit that satisfies most of those wants. For me, I like playing with fire, so an offset stick burner was my natural go to. In the meanwhile...

Re: Reverse flow hybrid smoker: vertical smoking chamber question.

Oops. Not yet, how should I? A generous helping of cooking oil slathered over the chamber? She's still running at this minute, so it would not be a problem.

Thanks RC, put a pork shoulder on this morning. She's running like a champ. The stack opposite the fb is wide open in this pic, but you can barely see the smoke. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180930/fc7482cb57034af40042597c34d73397.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180930/9b5017a1220ad1b6e...

Re: RF insulated cylinder FB with warmer questions

Yep. You're right. Just double check that your cylinder is within specs for fb size before boxing it in. It would be a lot of work to correct any issues with fb size.

Re: Reverse flow hybrid smoker: vertical smoking chamber question.

Thanks guys! No problem DT. I actually went over budget on paint and primer. On the black parts, For Primer I used PPG 1027 high heat and top coated with PPG 500 v. On the red parts I used rustoleum high heat primer and high heat topcoat. The blue part is duplicolor caliper paint. I sprayed the PPG ...

Re: RF insulated cylinder FB with warmer questions

I can envision how you'd frame out a cylinder in that manner. Either way, after you frame it, stuff the voids/ open areas with insulation like Bstory mentioned.

Re: Reverse flow hybrid smoker: vertical smoking chamber question.

*final paint pics* Postponed Q view to wait for my tel tru therms to arrive. I ordered two of the big 5" dial tel tru therms for my vertical sections. The middle section will be monitored by the Maverick. I didn't want to install dial therms in the middle because it would disrupt the look. Thanks ev...

Final coat of paint this afternoon. Painting is the most frustrating part. So many variables when you don't have a paint booth. But I think it turned out alright. Q view this weekend! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180918/52f3f739df2425ea5e3b5edd4ae91b7f.jpg Sent from my SM-J727V using Tapatalk

Wait, I was looking forward to that tractor smoker build. It was sure to be the first of its kind. We've had a lot of unique builds as of late, but that one would've been a show stopper.

Re: Reverse flow hybrid smoker: vertical smoking chamber question.

I agree. I couldn't believe how fast it flash rusted. I had about a 26 mile trip from the blaster to home and by the time I arrived, it already had a shadow of rust.
