Re: Lump or briquette?

Tried a few different things, best luck so far is with the red bag royal oak, it's local to me made less then 50 miles away. Flavor, color of meat, seems the most consistent when I cook with the hard wood oak charcoal, a few times I have added some wood to the bottom ash area, no real effect from th...

Chromeski, Thats a good idea, I just wiggle it and it slides out with out much trouble. you can't just pull strait, it will bind, but with a little shaking it starts moving.

Re: Gravity Feed #5

its the grate that the charcoal sits on. If i was to build another one i would add about a 1/16 of an inch to the angle iron that it sits on, It needs just a little wiggle room to make a touch easier to pull out. Its a little tight on mine,

Re: Gravity Feed #5

So I lit the gravity feed today run the temp up to 300 and drop a turkey on her. I didn't put much lit charcoal when I started it up so it took about an hour to come up to temp. Next time I am pretty sure I can get it up to temp faster if I drop more lit charcoal. Anyway this is the first cook were ...

To start my fire I take an old burner from a fish cooker and set it in the firebox
That's a good Idea. I ever find one with bent legs that going in the trash I will be sure to save it.

Re: Gravity Feed #5

What temp is the powder coat rated too? Love the colour and itching to start my stumps clone. They told me the normal powder coat was good to about 350 deg and the High temp powder coat was good to about 800 deg. They told me if the chimney got up to about 350 degrees it would start to discolor, an...

Re: Gravity Feed #5

so learn from my mistake, I measured the gap when I welded the hinge and set it at what I thought was 1/8 inch all the way around. After the gasket was installed I noticed my hinge side is just a hair under 1/8 inch and the latch side is just under 1/4 inch Wish I would have left a bit more gap on t...

I don't worry about the smell the smell won't hurt anything, The odder is not what burns, Pull the valves and displace any lp left in the tank. If water is cheap fill it once and dump it. all the lp is gone displaced by water, The last 2 tanks I cut I took the all the valves and gauges out and rolle...

Looking ahead at next week, as long as its not raining I am hoping to drop this smoker off at the power coat shop Tuesday sometime. What color would you make your smoker.

I am thinking Bright Fire Engine Red
Or dark Blue.

Any thought, NO Pink or yellow or black. I want it to stand out.
