Re: Rub

I have some of the smoking rub, and it's pretty good. One thing I learned, though, is that if I put it on heavy like I did other brands, it got a little too salty.

licensing requirements?

I know it will vary place to place, but just trying to get some opinions. I help some friends with their fund raising food stand at a local event. They grill a bunch of burgers and brats, and buy 5 or 3 roasting pans of pulled pork. I offered to bring my smoker next year (assuming I ever get it fini...

Re: 100 gallon with insulated FB and warmer

What is the square hole in the bottom of the fire box for? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I had an idea that I may want to add a pellet hopper assembly in the future, and use it to heat the WC. The plan would be to build an enclosure along the bottom and beneath the FB that the hopper assembly ...

Re: 100 gallon with insulated FB and warmer

Adding some insulation to the fire box IMG_20180306_205600367_50.jpg I welded the three sides of the firebox, then put them into the outer shell IMG_20180306_215235328_50.jpg Top of the FB test fitting. It will work, but I'm realizing that I should have left a little wiggle room in my calculated cut...

Re: Archuleta family reunion smoker

I would think so, that way the insulation will be sealed up.

Looking good so far.

Re: 100 gallon with insulated FB and warmer

They all laughed and said "why would you need to build a bridge crane?" Two years ago my BIL had a couple of 16" I beams laying around, so I decided they would make an awesome crane. Never really had a need for it. Thanks to the smoker, I was totally justified in building it. IMG_20180304_100523302_...

Re: 100 gallon with insulated FB and warmer

After getting most of the panels of the FB and WC cut up, it was time to start cutting in vents. One of the things I realized was how much work is needed to sleeve out every opening for the insulated space. In the first pic, I'm cutting the FB inlet. I used my drill to get the radiused corners to ma...

Re: 100 gallon with insulated FB and warmer

I'm not getting rid of the flanged end of the tank yet. I keep thinking that inspiration will strike at anytime, and it will make an interesting _________. For now, I've been using it to bend some steel strapping. IMG_20180304_113925057_50.jpg IMG_20180304_114137131_50.jpg Not quite the perfect bend...

100 gallon with insulated FB and warmer

Time to start my build thread. I started a few months ago, but it's been a slow start. Not a lot of time in the fall or winter to get in the shop. I also spent way too much time searching out discount steel plate, but didn't have a lot of luck. Found a 100gallon tank that used to be part of a media ...

Thermometers, wireless?

I'm in the buying/ planning stage of my build, and am contemplating the thermometers. I assumed I'd have two on the door, and maybe a wireless meat thermometer. Now I'm thinking, why not just have everything wireless, and maybe even Bluetooth to my phone. I'm picturing a couple sensors inside the co...

Patching tank openings

I've got a roughly 100gal tank that will hopefully become my new smoker. Tank was originally used for some sort of media blasting, according to the guy who gave it to me. Perfect size for me, but has all kinds of inlets/ outlets that I thought about patching. I will definitely take care of the bigge...

New guy

Finally getting serious about building a new smoker after my wife made me toss my old Chargriller. After a long, half assed craigslist search, I ended up with a nice sized tank to use.

Now comes the slow process of planning and design. Looking forward to reading through all the info here.
