I’m guessing that’s something to keep the welding spatter down?

Re: Start of a long journey.

Yes, the latch is the same 1/4” inch plate used for the rest of the smoker, I don’t see it ever heating up enough to cause problems. If anything happens otherwise I will be sure to let everyone in the thread know [emoji1360]

Re: Start of a long journey.

More time back in the shop today. Finished up the firebox and put a handle and locking latch. After that, we got one set of legs on it. Feeling better about it every day, just need to keep focused on commuting time to work. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180527/1f25833228958511c661fde1bfd4a2a9.j...

Re: Start of a long journey.

Nice work....great progress. Just a safety note, another post on here just yesterday said he rolled his smoker off a set of jack stands and crashed it to the ground. Luckily, nobody got hurt. Thanks for that, I’ll be sure to be extra careful while it’s on there [emoji1360] Sent from my iPhone using...

Re: Start of a long journey.

Finally got back to work recently, so here we go with an update. Got the vents done on the firebox, and attached it to the CC. The baffle plate fit the cook chamber perfectly to spec, which was quite nice. Finally, we got it set up on jack stands and are getting ready to build a stand. Sent from my ...

I have no plans to insulate. If I have troubles with heat retention in the future I might think about it.

Re: Start of a long journey.

Well I'm having some complications with poor work by the welding shop that supplied my CC, so today we started on the FB. I gotta say, I'm pretty proud of my first ever welds! Granted, I have a top notch teacher/coach/sensei guiding me. His extensive shop and supplies are quite a big help as well [e...

Start of a long journey.

Okay Gang, I finally got to go see what my metal fan shop has produced for me so far. Immediately, my first thought is "that's a lot of rust!" It's nice to see something start to materialize a little bit at least. Anyway, thoughts on treatment for the rust situation? I'll have plenty more questions ...

Re: Smoker Rookie Diving In

Hey would this be the right thread to post about my build or should I start a new thread in a different place? It'll be a combination of my photos and progress, as well as plenty of questions I'm sure.

Thanks in advance.

Smoker Rookie Diving In

Greetings Everyone! Just saying hello and thanks for accepting me on the forums. I've been interested in purchasing/building a smoker for about a year now, and I finally decided to pull the trigger. As I was unable to find a quality looking cooker to purchase up here in the North, I just recently we...

Smoker Size and Fuel Consumption

Hi All, I've recently purchased plans for a 48" by 24" diameter reverse flow smoker. However, I am starting to think I may have sized it a little bigger than I need, as I will mainly be using it for weekend family BBQ's feeding about 4-8 people at a time. I plan on cooking all cuts of meat (ribs, br...
