Re: Hutch's Mack build

Common misconception is you can sit back and relax after the meat goes on. I have found, like you, that it is sometimes difficult to focus on another project while smoking. Glad it turned out ok. Yep definitely gonna have to adjust how I do things a bit. My Bradley I had dual elements and a PID. I ...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

I had my tablet and 4 probes on my new igrill. It was on the car right next to me. Just wasn't focused on the smoker like I should have been. No worries, it came out good. I'm starting to get a feel for this smoker. With my wood being damp I need to toss a log on about every 30 minutes just so they ...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

Got to FINALLY cook with it tonight. Overall went pretty well. Was busy working on a car and lost my coals though, quickly added another chimney of wood and it was good to go again. Between that and starting late it was taking too long so we finished up inside. Turned out pretty good. First time try...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

When my wife starts to tell me I’m neglecting things I just point out my priority list is different from hers.... I'm very fortunate, my wife hasn't complained this whole project, even when it's over budget. Maybe I should be sleeping with 1 eye open just in case [emoji1787] Sent from my SM-N950U u...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

Back on nights for 4 days but when this period of hell is over I have 8 days off. First thing I'm gonna do is go buy a mail(can't believe I have made it this far in life without one). Then I intend to fire this thing up again and hopefully start getting a feel for holding a proper temp. If all goes ...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

Good call. Unfortunately mine are split about twice that size. Looks like I'm gonna need to do some splitting before I get to carried away. Good thing I actually enjoy it lol!

Re: Hutch's Mack build

I'm glad to hear that it didn't warp anything. There's definitely a learning curve to using an RF but once you figure it out, there's no going back imo. Most of us that have never used an RF that is correctly built don't realize hoe small that the fire has to be to maintain cooking temps so we buil...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

You've done a great job!! I just noticed the location of your shelf on the front of the cooker and I speak from experience when I say that I think that you're going to wish that it was lower. I had a shelf at the same height and I had to move anything that was on the shelf before I opened the doors...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

I say it's silver. Some says it's gold. Either way it's temporary. If I ever get my J10 done it will be synergy green, might be a bit much for a smoker lol! Black is just so normal and boring lol!

Re: Hutch's Mack build

So as long as the rain holds off intend to have this thing seasoned tommorow. If it falls through maybe Saturday or next weekend. It will have a seasoning through it at least before the next step. So my question for today. Paint. I got a buddy that runs a big truck shop. Does custom paint and whatno...

Good point. Would probably be just for transport purposes. Although the truck bed has plenty of room so not necessary even....

Re: Hutch's Mack build

I would have stacked my logs under there... Agree that backing up a trailer with a longer tongue is more forgiving. On a smoker tho, I would want it as absolutely short as possible. It will spend the majority of is time in the garage or out in the yard cooking. The number of people (mostly you) who...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

Sure! Lol! Honestly I like it long just for backing purposes, but I think a little tongue weight will help me some also. Plus it will look better overall too I think. Speaking of looks, kinda want to do something under the CC, kinda looks weird being so open... Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Re: Hutch's Mack build

Funny you mention that. I actually planned on cutitng it down and then adding more support to it as well. Thinking 18-24" shorter. Maybe more, just have to see what looks right.

Re: Hutch's Mack build

So had a very productive day today and yesterday. Got the wood rack built. Table under the CC built. All the trailer flooring done. Toolbox is drug out of storage and just resting but will be mounted soon. Got the ass end of the trailer cut off and capped. Trailer light brackets mounted. Just a few ...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

What's worse is we just got home from Disney world last week. So left here in a snow/slush/rainy mess, drove through a tornado, then enjoyed 85-90 weather only to drive back past a tornado and back into another snow storm. And my allergies have been absolutely horrible for 2 weeks now lol! Sent from...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

Yeah that route definitely sounds easier. I would prefer to not clean soot out before seasoning. Sounds like I need to wait a couple weeks until it warms up some too. It's still hit or miss here in Missouri. Picked up a Rick of hickory today. Bad news is either I forgot to ask or mistook him for a d...

Re: Hutch's Mack build

Not much progress as of late. Got it mounted on trailer a while back, and a little bit of the trailer deck done. Kids are on spring break on my 8 days off so not getting any work done this week. Going to go pick up a Rick of hickory as soon as my daughter gets out of dance class. Seeing as how I'm p...
