Re: My Center Feed Smoker Build

Good Morning RC, I measured the gaps at the end of the baffle plates and they are a little over 2" at the deepest part of the bell. I used Petes calculator and it gave me a total of 4" total gap for the measurements I put into it. I haven't welded anything down as of yet, but you make a viable point...

Re: My Center Feed Smoker Build

Another new year comes in and I got a few things accomplished. Got my baffle plate cut and fitted, its a 2 piece plate as I couldn't get a one piece in it. I had time to punch a 1" hole into the small piece and it lines up with the tank drain, just like in the plans.the edge of the baffle plate is 2...

Re: My Center Feed Smoker Build

Thanks Pete, I took my measurements and I see that instead of a 48" baffle plate, I should be using a 56" baffle plate and round the edges to fit the tank ends. that would leave a 2" gap at either end. I don't know if I can fit a 56" piece into the CC so I am going to fit the 48" piece into the CC a...

Re: My Center Feed Smoker Build

Ok, now while waiting for the shop to open after the holidays I have been doing some thinking. My throat opening is 12" * 3". I have made a Shadow plate that is 6" * 18" * 3/16 thick. That will be sitting 1 1/2" above the opening. Now my Baffle plate is going to be 14" wide and 2" above the shadow p...

Re: My Center Feed Smoker Build

Well today I welded up my fire box. Most of the welds are on the inside so they wont show as bad. I was looking for the parent metals to turn color, and all of them did so that makes me happy. You can see the firebox under the Cooking Chamber ready to get mounted. The shop maybe closed over the holi...

Re: My Center Feed Smoker Build

I didn't get to work yesterday, had to go to doctor appt. that my bride neglected to tell me until sunday night. So to day it was cut and weld day. Cut out the strips and intake close plate and then welded them up. I am glad I kept my day job, being retired. Some of these welds, well glad they make ...

Re: My Center Feed Smoker Build

Well since I didn't get the pics put up from two days ago i will wait till i get pics from yesterdays activities taken and put up all at once. My Center Feed Smoker Build

Today I got to cutting steel, that 1/4 steel plate is hard to cut with just a cutting wheel and a reciprocating saw. But I got my doors and throat opening cut as well as an intake slot on the right side cut. No I don't own a plasma cutter, never thought I would need one. Went through 4 Dewalt cuttin...

Re: My Center feed Smoker Plans

I keep forgetting that, BTW I started cutting the CC on Thursday. I am using a cut off wheel to start the cuts and then a reciprocating saw with a Diablo thick metal cutting blade. My Chicago Rip. saw took a dump so i borrowed the shops Dewalt 18v saw. NICE. As soon as take some pics, I will try to ...

Re: My Center feed Smoker Plans

Increased my firebox width from 18" to 24", the calculator says my throat opening should be 27 sq in. So I thought about a 9" * 3" opening. My question is can I go a bit larger like say 12" * 3" throat opening for 36 sq in for a 25% increase. What would be the downside to this if any?

that smoker is insane looking, like the steampunk theme with the rivets. I got a lot of ideas on what to do with my build, well done.

Re: My Center feed Smoker Plans

My revised plans, I have learned how to draw with Libre Draw and now can convert to jpg's to show you all on here. One question I have is how high should the shadow plate be above the throat opening from the firebox? I have dimensioned it to be 2 inches above, is that too far or is it good? The baff...

Re: Stove Black?

I use Rustoleum high heat flat black. Used it on exhaust manifolds and my harley pipes. I figure if it works on those the Smoker should be a piece of cake.

Re: My Center feed Smoker Plans

I see what you mean and if Gizmo sees this he is free to chime in with any suggestions. On the bright side though, I have figured out Libre Draw to where I can draw arcs so my next set of plans should be more clear and less confusing. Its been 45 years since I was in college trying to be an Architec...

Re: My Center feed Smoker Plans

Yes all measurements are in feet, I haven't figured out how to make the dimension change in Libre Draw yet, so my reminder is 12:1 scale. And Yes I planned on using Charcoal and Wood as fuel. My main concern was the FB being too small to heat the CC, if so I have another tank to mate with the one an...

My Center feed Smoker Plans

Here are my plans for my center feed Smoker. The CC and FB are actually tanks but I left the ends off as the were a bitch to draw on Libre Draw.

Hello from Minnesota

Hello all, Thanks for the add to the group. Planning on building a center feed smoker. Planning on using an air tank for the CC and an air tank or 2 for the FB. a couple of Harley exhausts for the exhaust.
