Calculations for a vertical

Wanting to build a verticals offset smoker as I already have the verticals cabinet. Will the sizes from the pit calculator be correct for a vertical? Firebox, intakes, throat etc.
thanks

Labor Day grub

Couple racks of ribs and some chicken thighs on the smoker today. Seared the thighs on the grill to crisp them up a bit, they were great. Ribs were good as well, I didn’t wrap these it took about 5 1/2 hours running about 230 degrees. I also made a little bourbon peach cobbler in the Dutch oven for ...

Re: Changing stack

I have been thinking of doing this to mine as well. My thought was to make a chimney in the roof that my stacks could vent into. My thought is that if I make it say a 12” square for example, put a rain cap on it, and bring it down about even with my stacks. I wouldn’t think it will affect the draw o...

Re: New guy first build

50lbs of summer sausage, half with pepper jack cheese. Very happy with how the warming cabinet works for this. I’m was able to maintain temps from 110-180 with no problems. Here’s a couple pics for ya, enjoy the new year. 47456F04-ACF2-42FE-BC8A-2DFCF9117E06.jpeg 03DEB05C-1253-4559-BAB0-8BC376E3B3FF...

Re: Fire management questions

I’m new to this as I’ve only ran my pit a few times sir far. I have found with mine that I need to have the stack only about half open to keep the temp up where I want it. I would give that a try before cutting another intake.

Used the crutch, was struggling with maintaining the fire and temp a bit, figured I needed a little help. They actually turned out pretty good.

Thanks for the replies. I didn’t get the jerky put on today but tossed these on. Definitely gonna take some practice to run this and I’m looking forward to it.

Re: New guy first build

Finally brought it home from my buddies shop, it pulled nicely which I was a little concerned about with it being a little lighter on the tongue than I like. Installed the cc door handle and the shelf, turned out well. Gonna try smoking some deer jerky in the wc tomorrow. 83E840E7-851F-4B65-B0D1-201...

Been away for a bit with deer season, but did get it painted. Just need to finish sanding and put finish on the shelf and the handle, and need to finish the grate for cowboy cooker. Gonna cook a couple racks of ribs and a pork roast tomorrow, so I’ll get you guys some q view. Thanks for the help. 97...

Re: New guy first build

Pretty good progress today, installed the shelf brackets (will be usuing a 2” thick piece of cedar for the shelf). Made the cc door handle brackets and cut a piece of black walnut that I will debark and sand down. Installed the fenders. Made and installed the wood box, and have the cowboy cooker in ...

Re: New build new guy

On mine I put a shadow plate even with the top of the firebox opening and the baffle plate about an inch above that. It let me have my grates in the center of the cook chamber and about 4” between the grates and the baffle plate.

Re: New guy first build

Very good thanks for the info. I did jot down a few notes last night, and I will try adjusting the intakes next time. Overall the pit ran well once up to temp. I was able to maintain 225-250 from one end to the other.
