Just be sure that there's not a lip on the top of the throat where it exits the FB, it needs to be a smooth transition.

What Does the Baffle Plate Gap Affect?

Okay, so as I understand it the area of the BP gap should be equal to 75% to 100% of the area of the firebox to cook chamber opening.

But how do you know if it needs adjusting? If it's out of whack does it effect end to end temp spread? Are there other symptoms?

I have seen some people who welded the flanges and hinges on the door before cutting it all the way out. Some time the door will warp not because the way you cut it but because the way the cylinder was made. The stress can be stored until released by cutting it out. I said all that to say its easie...
