Re: Offset smoker and firebox size.

Worked on my smoker a little more. Moved the firebox up higher and got a base under it. Got a lot more to do though. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191117/5606aa497895488392c90eb23cea05bd.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191117/052e8808532b401fb4d64ba694aedb4e6.jpg Sent from my iPhone usin...

Re: Propane tank fit up.

I’m going to leave them on. I like the look of the rounded ends and plus I don’t have to buy metal to cap them off.

Yeah that does solve a lot of issues. I do like the look of the two rounded tanks meeting up.

Re: Propane tank fit up.

Lot of trial and error. Always tough to get the proper size openings when the surfaces are curved. Use small cuts and expand till you get what you want, and remember, cardboard templates are your friend here. Ok thanks. That’s how I was thinking I would have to do it. I didn’t know if there was a t...

Propane tank fit up.

Can anyone show a picture or video explains how to fit one propane tank to another? Like when building a smoker and using one tank for the fire box and one for the cook chamber. I want to do my next build this way like I see a lot of pictures of but I can’t seem to understand how to mark out where t...

Re: Lifting things

Take a few standard wood 2x4’s from local hardware store and cut them into 16 inch sections (or whatever length you desire). You can then stack them however you need them to get the lift you need....making sure to do it safely so as not to have a firebox crash onto your foot. You need to lift your ...

Re: Lifting things

It’s more work but a floor jack and a bunch of 2x4 cribbing works pretty well to lift and align fireboxes. I was able to move my box around on the jack as well. I do have a roof mounted hoist tho...[/quotes there anyway you could post a picture of the 2x4 cribbing if you get a chance. That sounds l...

Re: Lifting things

I do have a chain hoist and it is handy but I think I could really use the manual fork lift. I might look into one of those.

Lifting things

I have cook chamber on saw horses and fire box on the ground. I don’t have a fork lift or anything like that. Does anybody out there have tips and tricks on moving and lifting things around the shop?

Oil instead of paint.

I’ve heard of some people using some sort of oil instead of pain on the outside of there smokers and firebox. I’ve also heard that even with high temp paint it seems to burn off over time. Does anyone no what type of oil to use on a cooker and how to apply it? I think it’s nice to leave an old propa...

Can anybody suggest a smoke stack size? I have some 4 inch square tubing that I was thinking of using but someone told me that wasn’t big enough.

Re: Offset smoker and firebox size.

I dont think you can put them too low...performance wise...I could be wrong.... but it would only be a question of aesthetics... the bottom of your CC appears to be off the ground by 16"... your FB only by maybe 2-3" (a brick and some plywood) any idea how much taller your going to make the final h...

Offset smoker and firebox size.

Hi. I’ve been on here a while but I don’t right much. I’m really getting into it more now. I’m building an offset with a 60 gallon propane tank and it’s 20” diameter and I have a firebox that is 17” long and 20” diameter as well. Does this seem like a good combo? I couldn’t make sense of the calcula...
