Re: What is this pit worth.

Yeah I think to a lot of people this is just a big hunk of metal. It’s probably worth more to me than anybody else because I put so much time into it. I might be better off to keep it since it does cook really good.

Re: What is this pit worth.

That’s pretty good. Then he can tell everyone who built his pit. I have another 60 gallon tank and a 75 gallon tank I’d like to build smokers out off. With steel so high I would like some money from this one to get started on the other two. It’s hard to find anything since 2020. Sent from my iPhone ...

Re: What is this pit worth.

Yeah your right about the steel prices. That sucks for the little guys like me. I use to do a lot of hobby welding which is how I decided to build this pit. But now it’s to expensive to do for the heck of it. I might list is for $1000 and see what happens.

Re: What is this pit worth.

What's your location and how do you plan on trying to sell it? People in Texas won't pay. I’m in Alabama. I was thinking of Facebook marketplace. I’ve never sold one before. I plan to build two more and sell them also. I see the bigger names in pits selling for a lot of money so I was hoping for a ...

What is this pit worth.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me an opinion on what this might be worth if I sell it. I built it myself and I’m thinking of selling to fund another project. Any help is appreciated. It’s 60 gallons 1/16 thick and 20” diameter. Firebox is 20” diameter by 17” long and is 3/8 thick. https://...

Re: Clear high heat paint?

Yeah I really like the look of the unpainted smokers. Mine is hard to keep the temps low. I can do it but I just have to be careful. I want to build a much bigger one but my budget won’t let me yet. Lol

Re: Clear high heat paint?

I found some rustolium 2000 degree clear spray paint. Has anybody tried this on a smoker or do you think it might be good on a smoker. I like my rustic looking smoker but I don’t want it to rust any further. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk How's the clear coat holding up, ntjones? It actually ho...

I may try that on the fire box. I have boiled linseed oil. Is that the same or is it actually a difference?

Re: Clear high heat paint?

Thanks for the update. Sounds like the clear coat doesn’t hold up any better than regular paint....nor any worse for that matter. I’m convinced that getting paint to stick to a firebox is a fairy tale unless you get a professional baked coating. I think your right. I was betting it wouldn’t but I s...

Re: Clear high heat paint?

Ok. I’ve gone through several cooks now and the clear coat is failing on the top of the fire box. I figured it would though. It’s not flaking or peaking but more like fading away. I’m ok with that though. This was a quick and dirty clear coat and it’s ok everywhere else at this point. Time will tell...

Re: Offset smoker and firebox size.

Thanks for the compliment. I’ll update on the clear coat. Soon I’ll ha e gas for my welder and I hope to make better looking welds. I built this smoker with flux core.

Re: Offset smoker and firebox size.

So far the clear is holding up. I’m pleased with it. I’ve only cooked about three time since I put the clear on though. If it starts looking bad I think I can just spray it again. I found the clear coat on amazon.

Re: Offset smoker and firebox size.

That looks awesome! Did you use the Rustoleum automotive paint? How was the prep and application process? Did you preheat, etc? It is rustolium. 2000 degree clear. I just used a wire wheel on a grinder to knock the loose rust off and then sprayed it. I didn’t spend much time on it at all. There was...

Re: Offset smoker and firebox size.

I guess it’s probably ok then. Even if I have the door wide open and a lot of smoke is coming out of the door there is still plenty coming out of the stack. I guess thats pretty good draft still. I probably need to play with my fire wood size and see what works best for an efficient fire and not a s...

Re: Offset smoker and firebox size.

I don’t have any air inlets on my fire box. I have been just adjusting the door opening. With the door opened about a quarter inch it seem to draw just a little bit not real hard. If I open the door about a half inch or more the smoke starts coming out of the firebox door. Do you guys think that abo...

I ended up putting a river country on my new pit. It seems to work really good although I don’t have another to compare it to. I also have a maverick with two probes. One for meat and one for the cook temp.
