Re: Smoker out of a 80 gallon compressor tank

Really nice build on the 80 man! What are the cook chamber dimensions? And what diameter stack did you go with? I’m at that point in deciding that on my build

Re: Door flanges - tight seal

I got my door mostly cut, but I wasn’t confident in handling the large door so I welded my hinges in before making final door cuts. I have a gasket now I want to install, but only have the flanges to work with and adjust to make everything fit right. Was going to shim the flanges and use ratchet str...

Re: Door flanges - tight seal

When using a gasket, do you just use a shim when welding on the flanges to allow space? Also, Does that make for a noticeable gap between the door metal and the flange (not sure how good that will look if not completely welded). I wasn’t planning on cutting my door completely out until hinges are we...

Door flanges - tight seal

Anybody have any tricks for intalling the door flanges (1-1/4-1-1/2” flat bar) so they get a tight seal on the cook chamber? I’ve got a few thoughts about this, but saw a video about a texas company’s pits and his flange seals are pretty tight with no gaskets or anything. Couldn’t even slide a card ...

Re: 150 gallon build, lots of questions

Awesome work! I can't wait to see some of your cooks! Follow up question regarding the smoke stack at center level of the CC. For the length of the stack should we only measure the vertical height of the stack or vertical height plus radius of CC (if stack at center level)? From what i understand, ...

mock up, still not completely standing on its own, and it will be about 8-1/2" taller when wheels go on.

Thanks. I have never attempted making wheels, this was a first. It was pretty frustrating trying to keep hub aligned

Re: 150 gallon build, lots of questions

Got pipe sliced for wheels, had to make a jig with plywood to help line them out. Got one more to tack up and then weld em out, happy with how they turned out.

Might change to RF, questions

I’ve started a build from a 150 gallon tank. And the further along I get I’m wondering if I should make it a RF. Was gonna do a traditional, but might change. I’ve got the throat cut out in my firebox per the calculations, but it’s football shape (will that still work). Firebox is right at 110%. In ...

Door top cut position

I’m not quite there yet, but was thinking on my door layout, where exactly should the top cut be located - 12:00 position, or maybe an inch in either side of that? I would love to keep ain out of cooker, and only thing that would make sense is the top door cut past 12:00 just a little (towards the b...

Re: wagon wheels and steering

I made two spindles with an adjustable drag link setup....steers with a pull handle. I mounted 8 inch wheels on mine. The 20inch steering wheels would take up some area but would probably work. Do a google search for go-kart steering for some ideas and possible parts. I can upload a picture later i...

wagon wheels and steering

I may attempt to build some 20" wagon wheels with some pipe I have laying around for my pit build. I'm gonna have to make a jig or some template to get everything trued up, which will be a challenge and I don't have a lathe. Would like 4 on this build - 2 near the firebox, and 2 near the front. I've...

Just wanted to see how it’s cooking? I’m trying to build one similar, with the exhaust out the end mid level like yours, but heard mixed things about it used with a baffle. ?.

Ok, I’ll get some heavy casters. Got my firebox cut down so now I’m at 110%. Got a long way to go.
