Re: 150 gallon build, lots of questions

Hi Tipps, I think I have the same exact tank size. 'Planning to do the same basic thing as you did (round firebox made from the tank). My questions are: what was the best way you found to cut the tank? In the photos your cuts look so straight! And secondly, I guess the fire wood and fire inside the...

Re: First Build. Cart first or later? Centering door

I may be late to the party... I did my legs for the pit last. Got the cook chamber up on jackstands, and the fire box was resting on ground when I racked it all up. I was able to shim firebox with a 1x to get it where needed. I put my grease drain on stack end, and actually made my cook chamber slop...

Re: My first try 200L smoker

Search the jack and chain method for straightening the door, I’ve seen it explained on this forum somehwere.
I used a big turnbuckle on my cook chamber to push part of it out, but that may not work for the door itself

Re: My first try 200L smoker

looks like it's coming together good. And I think you may have enough wood in the background for several cooks.

Re: Small offset, would this be efficient?

I would spend my money on a smoker that is more traditionally shaped and a little bigger, whether it's custom or not. I am not sure what that guy is charging, but I would imagine you could find something that has a normal design and a little more fire/cooking room in it for not much more (academy, b...

Re: 150 gallon build, lots of questions

Thanks for all the help and advice on my build guys, I really appreciate it. Learned so much through this whole process and ended up building something that is exactly what I had imagined and wanted from the beginning. It holding the temps like it does is rewarding for sure, and I am about to use th...

Re: 150 gallon build, lots of questions

I'm finished. Lit the first fire in it last week and seasoned the cook chamber with a mix of tallow and bacon grease. Let that burn for about 5 hours and threw some chicken thighs on it just for kicks. The real first cook was this Saturday. Lit my fire about 4 in the morning, smoked a 13 lb brisket ...

Made me a disco, and burner

Thanks to this forum, I saw these things and had to have one. Found me a few 22" discs (1 for me, and the others for folks down the street). Welded 1-1/2" lip around edge, welded on some handles, and cleaned up the disc surface. Bought me an old steel wheel from a tire shop, had some scrap metal so ...

Re: 150 gallon build, lots of questions

Well, I finally got my front steering handle on this thing, built some tools for it and hangers on the back, and got it painted up. I debated about adding a shelf, but the more I thought about my old one the more I remembered I hardly ever used it, and I can just have a small table nearby. Time to l...

It's a start.....it will come together for you. Sit and drink a beer or two and just stare at it....it works for me anyway.
Worked for me too, many times just staring and drinking beer. Somehow things start getting welded!

Re: Size of tubing for stand

1/8” tubing should be good if you use 2”. I used 3” tubing, 1/8” on the 150 gallon I’m almost finished with (another thread here in standard offsets).

Glad you found them. I looked at ordering them but shipping was a nightmare!
Yeah me too, the shipping was out of hand. Place I found had only 22” discs, but they had no holes in em, worked out good.

Disc burner question

What’s the ideal space between the bottom of a disco and the burner? Gonna build a designated burner stand for this disc I got, and was thinking 4-5” or so would be about right.?.?

Discs around Dallas-Fort Worth?

Anybody know of a source to buy plow discs for discadas around Dallas-Fort Worth? I need 2 24” and wanted to build them as opposed to buy em already made up.

Thanks

Re: Sawtooth cutting

Got it notched and installed, and it works great. I just drilled a hole every inch in the middle of the flat bar that would be used to lift the opening cover plate, and then cut the remaining metal with a grinder. Smoothed them out with a Dremel. not perfect saw teeth, but they hold and now I have a...
