Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Thanks friend! I feel like this is seasoning, and I really don’t fancy scrubbing it off.

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

I have a quick question on cleanliness.

I am of the opinion scrape the big stuff off, and when I pre heating the smoker it is steralising it each time. What’s your thoughts. Seems a lot of effort if you need to take it back to shiny metal.

What’s you guys opinions on this?

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Thanks. I have had a really great weekend playing with this. It is a blessing not a burden so much leftover meat. We ground up the burnt end, and it made the most wonderful bbq crumb. Intense flavour. Used as topping on pizza and smoked mac and cheese we done. Have an order for assorted woods coming...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

The packer turned out a bit drier on the flat than I had hoped. I wanted to be purist, we just smoke - wood fired the whole way. Perhaps it may have been less dry if I crutched. I actually felt the flat was drier because it was less done - is this possible? Even though my gauges read consistent, I d...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Yes,wanted to be set to pretty much just light the coals. Got the brisket in by 2.45AM. As is looking to be a 12 hour cook. I started at 225, but now closer to 250. Finding little things out about it now, keeping the coal bed, is easier at 250, but I just realised locking the baffle down a lot actua...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Thanks guys. Been great build for sure.

Going to christen here tomorrow, with an untrimmed packer. Got myself an oil burning lamp to gently light proceedings as I will be getting up 2am, to get this on the road.

Few pictures below, and Q-View when she is done.

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

So for now, except a snagging list as long as my arm. I have her finished for this season. She fit together with very little persuasion, almost like a glove. Considering one side was laser cut, the other hand cut and drilled, I am pleased it went together so well. Not saying putting a thing like thi...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Got the tie bars made up today, so finally got the firebox in the frame. Gave her another burn off and plan to put the top box in the frame tomorrow.

So far, really pleased with how it is turning out.

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Thanks guys. I am just so pleased it actually works. I think it might be in this temp form for a few years, before I can build the bottom half. Been working back on it today. I decided not to make the side table, as I am trying to get this done for the 19th of April, and would have added quite a bit...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Pictures below showing the temp probes, at this time they where exactly the same across the smoke chamber. The iGrill still how about a 15 degree offset throughout - and the right probe usually sat fractionally higher, but by they probes it looked almost the same.

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Spent the last two weeks welding and grinding. Before I built the frame, in case I need to change anything, I fashioned it up today and tested it. I am really pleased with it. Heats up almost instantly, holds temperature, responds well to the damper. So much easier than what I had been doing. Put th...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Made a couple of stops for the latch, out of some brass bar. Then I moved onto the task which I have been putting off. Welding the plates out and grinding a radius. I am putting stringers down, as my welder wouldn't be powerful enough to wash a weld in there. I plan to go back over with the Tig afte...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Got the ships wheel on today, the latch, needs some more work, rounding the edges off to neaten it up. Also needs a couple stops for when it is on the locked position and when it is unlocked. I decided to keep it simple and just have a rotating latch, when at the correct angle, it squeezes through t...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Thanks, amazing what you can cobble together out of scrap.

I have borrowed a few parts I already bought for the new bbq, such as the hinges, but so far in, not spent a penny

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Worked on the door today. Cut it out of 15mm road plate, and squared it of on the mill. I notched some box section to fill the gap to allow the hinges to fit. I was going to cap them of, but I think it looks quite good open still. They are only tacked on so I can get a feel for it. I intend to get t...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Spent the day working on the air intake damper. Took a long longer than I had hoped, milled a pocket out of some 10mm plate. There is a 5mm plate that slides inside.

Used an old water main stop cock for a handle, with a brass spacer.

Few pics below.

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

This is what I mean by scaffold planks for the top. This is what I used here.

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Not sure I could get it done without there help :) I also am happy to delay the final thing, when the reason, is the money is being spent very well elsewhere. Got some more done today, not working to a drawing, and making it up as I go along. Used to build like this all the time, it is fun, and gets...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

So turns out, it may have been easier to put the holes in first lol. I was concerned about the plates being cut by hand, with a grinder, so I thought I would weld it to a box, squared off and then I will have a square datum to work from. This would have been fine, if my mag drill was up to the job. ...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

That should make a nice fire box. Is this just temporary to get the upper smoker working? Exactly that. I can’t spend anything on it, so working with what I can beg lol. That’s why it is only a firebox. The oven is complicated, and it is better to wait for the money. Temporary might turn out 2 year...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

So, some time has passed, and as always life gets in the way of a good project. I will struggle to find the money to finish this as per the drawings for some time. So I decided to use the 15mm road plate that was going at work, to make a firebox until I can get it done. It has 10mm plate top and bot...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

Don't quite have the money for the second half of the bbq just yet. I got a quote back for the parts, but decided best to get to the new year before I proceed. I have a few bits to work on, on the smoke chamber so will be closing those outs. One of which is finalising the gas strut mounts. Machined ...

Re: Wood burning stove style reverse flow smoker.

You can tell your good at your job. If it works as designed you might have a nich market you could cater too. I would love to have a log cabin with one in it as primary source of heat and cooking. Gotta work on getting some place to have a cabin first though. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk Ha...
