Re: HELP with Start Up Temps

To light my mini gf, I fill up the chute with charcoal briquettes, close the chute door, open top cc vent all the way, and then use map torch for about 30 seconds to light charcoal in firebox. I then close the firebox door. I am using a CyberQ with fan. The fan is running while lighting. Smoke start...

Pastrami

I bought a corned beef brisket from Acme on sale and turned it into a Pastrami on the Mini GF I built. I made my own rub but followed the steps from Malcolm Reed on YouTube. It turned out awesome.

Re: Lincoln 180 mig

I used the same welder to build my smoker. I did buy a new gun liner for larger wire. I used flux core for the firebox (1/4" and 1/2") plate. I then used gas for everything else with small wire. I have a dedicated 50 amp breaker.

Re: Any home built insulated smoker's here?

The Gravity Feed smokers are insulated. I live in Delaware (18 degree F) and used my mini gf, it holds temperature great. I built it because my wife told me that I couldn't buy a Kamado. So I built my own smoker and got rid of her.

Re: Lamb

I too want to smoke Lamb on my Mini GF. I follow Malcolm Reed on YouTube, he has a good video about smoking Lamb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM7hJHreMh0
I'm going to try it soon.

Santa Maria Grill Plans

Now that I have finished my Mini GF, I want to build a Santa Maria style grill. I could not be any happier with the plans, support, and the smoker. Has anyone purchased and built a SM Grill using the plans from Smokerplans.net? I searched the forums and could not find a lot of info. Any pictures, re...

I have been having the same problem with my mini GF. I guess it's time to modify or rebuild my grate. Thanks for the idea.

Re: Tadpole Gasket

I built a Mini GF, one thing I would change is to move the drain hole back (centered between front and back) several inches. The drain valve is really close to the front caster. The nomex gaskets work well, just leave enough of a gap before you weld on your hinges.

Re: Start of a mini

I welded in a 1/2" pipe with a probe port on the outside of the smoker on my mini. I didn't like the look of the recessed shelf on the front. It's large enough for my pit probe and three temperature probes.

Turkey Breast

6lb Turkey Breast on my Mini GF. 4:15 @ 250 degrees. I used apple wood for the smoke. It turned out great. Image

Re: Start of a mini

I am using the BBQ Guru CyberQ Cloud with the Pit Bull fan (25 CFM) on my mini GF. I really like that setup. I also completely filed in the area around the firebox with the leftover Roxul insulation. I also filled each piece of tube steel. The outside gets warm but you won't burn yourself if you tou...

How many butts will the mini hold?

I don't know. I can tell you it has three food grates, each 18"x22" and about 5" of clearance. I'm going to do three this weekend for a party.

I like my CyberQ Cloud with the Pit Bull fan on my Mini GF. I currently don't need more than three meat probes. It's not the cheapest option however.

Quick question. What size CFM fan are you using?
I am using the BBQ Guru Pit Bull fan which is 25 CFM. It works well and the smoker comes to temperature fast. It will be interesting to see how it does in the winter.

I'm from Delaware. I cut everything myself for my mini GF build except for the firebox plates. I had my local steel dealer cut that for me. What are you going to build?

My Completed Mini Gravity Feed

I had every intention to document my entire build but just never posted any of the build pictures. I bought myself a welder last year and taught myself to weld with the help of YouTube. I started my build last August and completed the frame before the cold North East winter started. I also had my se...

I just received a copy of my free plans. Where do you find a 24" OD x 48" tank/pipe? If you welded up a octagon / hexagon using .25 plate would that work?

Re: Mini GF Experience

I love the color you used on your build. How is the paint holding up? Also how much paint did it take to finish? I'm getting close to painting and want to choose a paint with color options that I can spray using HVLP.
