Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

Highly recommend cooking on it 6-8 times before you paint it. It’s easier to adjust your metal work if needed before paint. I, for one, am still making small adjustments and additions to my pit—-even after 3 years of it being ‘finished.’ I am getting super close now tho....just a few more mounting ...

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

Almost done with the build! Got the ash pan done and latches are ready to mount. I just need to install the gasket on the doors and finish the dampers on the chimneys and paint!

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

The firebox is all insulated. I added an opening on the top so I can add a warming box if I want in the future. I am down to little things like latches and handles and paint. Close to a test fire!!!

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

I tacked some nails to the firebox walls to help hold up the ceramic wool during the install. Worked well.

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

I’m back to work on the smoker after a little break, I was hanging sheet rock in the brewery. I made a charcoal basket and got several sides of the firebox insulated and sealed up today. 35CC4715-50A3-4A71-980D-6BEB8B290740.jpeg 35CC4715-50A3-4A71-980D-6BEB8B290740.jpeg 5BBDCE5C-E817-4C8E-9970-AEDB6...

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

Hopefully the brewery will be open late April or May. I can’t wait to fire this pit up and lure people in with the amazing aroma from the smoker. I got the firebox almost done. I need to make a door latch, handles for the inlet doors and a basket. Any general rules for how big the basket should be o...

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

I got the top of the CC on and all the doors cut out. Before I mount the doors I would like to get some gasket material so I know where to mount the hinges so I get a good seal. What is everyone’s favorite gasket brand or materials? I’ve been looking at the LavaLock and FireBlack as potential winner...

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

I got the shelf guides in on one side today. They are spaced 7” between each shelf, that should be plenty of room I’m thinking.

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

So I got the end capped off and am planning on using a 6” pipe I have for my chimney but I am planning on making it a dual exhaust partly so the chimney isn’t so high and also for the cool factor. Is there any reason that the dual chimneys would be a problem in performance?

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

Question about shelf spacing. How many inches is recommended between shelves in the smoker? There is 20” of height and I want to get as many shelves as I can but I don’t want to affect performance of the smoker by adding too many or having them too close that I cant get certain cuts of meat to fit o...

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

Well it’s a reverse flow smoker now. Got the baffle plate in and added a heat definition plate above the firebox opening to keep a hot spot from happening and preserve the baffle plate at that end.

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

Today I got the firebox and cook chamber welded together! I need to make some legs for the CC to rest on the frame then time make the door frame and box in the flat doors and round up some sheets of metal for the reverse flow plate.

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

What is your opinion or suggestions on hinges for the firebox and the flat doors on the cook chamber? I would like to use 1/4 plate if I can so the doors will be heavy. Should I fabricate something vs purchase some bullets or other style hinges.

Re: TT’s Old Iron Brewery RF Smoker build

I didn’t blast the whole tank just because there isn’t much other than the door area I needed down to bare metal and it saved me $100. I am making flat doors to gain a little more cooking surface and won’t have to have any counter balance for the doors.
