Re: Smoker cart build.

I did a build a while back using golf cart tires/wheels for that same reason, I needed to roll over grass etc. Here is a link to the build thread on this site...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Pretty much final question.... Almost done with this project!!!! The cover on the top of the chimney... Is that just to keep rain/bird pooooo out of your cooker... Or are people fine tuning flow by closing that off or opening that up in certain situations? It seems to me, you would always want it wi...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Finished up a few more things, beefed up the fb door, added slider handles to the lower side fb air vents (did not expect this, but right after I welded these, the main rod was crazy hot, as you all can imagine.. but I was able to pick them up the handle right away, not hot at all!!?? These work rea...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Also I added some counterweights to the doors... The were super heavy... I saw a smoker with a set up similar to this, thought it looks clean, but theirs had the cable routed on the outside, exposed between the two putter pulleys... I went for a cleaner look... Ran the cable inside the mount and use...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Got a bit more done.... Curious what you guys think about the ss plenum..I may have over though it..... I tried to do a hybrid of a smaller opening and a wide opening hahaha...supposedly the small openings "pull" harder...Like a vacuum cleaner with a smaller attachment... The smaller the tip, the mo...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Hummm interesting... I like it.... If I do that, should I lower my smoke stack on the other end like a jambo, or keep it at grate level?

Re: Square vs round stack

great thanks guys..... another question...the plenum that connects the CC to the stack itself, should that air volume be considered in the exhaust stack, or does that just add volume to the CC..... I guess I'm asking... when I build the plenum... should I subtract that air volume away from the air v...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Holy Sh*t! That is massive! And really cool! How’s it work out in the calculator? HA! you're right! but it's awesome, so im going to make it work.....I have never seen anyone else use a rocket tube for an exhaust stack... so I feel like it's my duty to make it happen. I initially entered a stack di...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Added a wood rack inside the fb... 5/8 solid square stock should do the trick... I'm going to add a screen just below it to catch coals.. and still allow ash to fall through... hopefully... PXL_20210223_080338801-01.jpeg PXL_20210223_080412643.jpg And I got the upper racks in... PXL_20210224_0632473...

Re: Square vs round stack

Volume of the stack above the top of the pit is what matters. I imagine there is a diminishing return at some point but most folks look for two things - is the stack high enough to get the smoke out of my eyes? And will the stack fit under my garage door. You can hinge the stack if it's too tall bu...

Re: Square vs round stack

Does diameter for the stack matter as far as draw is concerned? in the pit calculator, If put in a round stack, 6 inch diam, the clac. spits out "x" length....then, if I put in 12-inch diam stack, it just spits out a shorter stack length... but is there an optimal diam. for a stack? If I had access ...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Is the cook chamber height set in stone already? I raised the whole thing up 4 inches on my latest one. Yes, both are already set.... I should have mentioned that.... now my options are to cut the throat lower by hand, and then weld in a plate at the top, to basically shift the throat down... or le...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

two quick questions, ONE- im about to mount the FB to the CC.... and right before I was going to cut out the "green dotted line" in the pic below....I was wondering.... what if instead of cutting it out.... should I just leave the FB where it is, and plate it in the gap... which would keep the FB fu...

PXL_20210219_093800720.jpg PXL_20210219_081638162.jpg I am a bit nervous about the throat size... i cut it exactly as the calc. said, but holy smokes its HUGE!?? I feel like I could climb th...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

so my steel delivery never showed up last week, something about covid etc.... anyway, turned out to be a great thing, I ran down to the local scrap yard and found a bunch of 3/8" steel plate chunks that was in amazing shape! I was shocked... I was very excited thinking I was going to save a ton of m...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

I’m guessing you put in the measurements that the opening would be 1/4th of the 81 sq in required. You can play around with the size of your openings in the calculator to come up with better options. If that’s the recommended area, you could do two 4x10” openings - one on either side, for example. ...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question about the air inlets but you only need 82 sq inches total. I normally put 2 inlets, one on each side and they're both the recommended size so that I can close one side off and use the other if the wind starts blowing directly into the inlet. You want ...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Hey John, I missed in your pic how you have the grates sitting down into the CC below the door openings. I’m guessing you wont be sliding loaded grates in and out so you can probably skip the grate stops. Is the pit calculator calling for 4 x 84” inlets and is it telling you that you are at 100% re...

PXL_20210211_105847973.jpg PXL_20210211_110309490.jpg Tomorrow I going to build the firebox... but I have a question on the air inlets... the calc says i need 4 air inlets with an area of 84 in^2 (actual) and 82 in^2 (recommended)... do i just divide up the 82 in^2 into 4 inlets... those would be s...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

You left room for the gasket before you welded the hinges on, right? If not, your door has a good chance of binding. Also, if you already have the pipe for the stack, remember it is total cubic inches that matter. On that big of a pit, you would add a lot of character by putting two stacks side by ...

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions. I will go with the 8" diam stack... I will finish welding the hing...

yikes, I had no idea the stack height is from the top of the cooker! yes, that will be way too tall... I will find a bigger ID stack, I might know where i can get some 8"diam thin wall stainless tube.... Im going to build a rotisserie to spin the tank around on to clean it, and hopefully cut the doo...

Re: Any other 320 gallon smokers out there?

Well then 320 gallons of fun it is! These are the numbers the calculator gave me.... I will follow them the best I can. Hope they look good to you guys. I have read some people tweak the numbers a bit for one reason or another, but since this is my first propane tank build, (I have built one pit bef...
