Re: Building Horizontal Gravity Feed

There is a calculator on the front page of the forum. You plug in your cook chamber size and it will help you find the proper dimensions for the firebox, throat, gap, chimney and air intakes. The calculator is well tested and will result in a well tuned pit if you follow it. Another thought is to l...

Re: Building Horizontal Gravity Feed

The best place to start would be taking a look at the ones that are pre-made. Master built, chargriller, and myron mixon make some. Chargriler and master built are smaller but you might be able to get some dimensions and the amount of airflow they have to use. I'm pretty sure on Myron's they use a c...

Re: Building Horizontal Gravity Feed

The 100cfm for blowers was not a mistake. I have been talking about one if these with Frank for a while and that was the number he came up with. I was looking at a 24"x48" tube with a gravity feed shot on the side. The BBQ Guru controller kit that is recommended for the second to largest Myron Mixo...

Re: Building Horizontal Gravity Feed

I've been looking at the same thing. From what I have been told you will need around 100cfm of air flow. I have looked at some of the miron mixon gravity feeds and they have some that are similar and use 2 x 25 cfm blowers. I've have also looked at the "throw away" big box store ones trying to figur...

Did I mention that we have some new ideas for your egg cooker ideas.
No you didn’t but I can’t wait to hear them. I’ll be back in town Sunday sometime.

Gravity Feed Rescue

Thanks for the kind words Tom. The help and ideas you and frank have given me are priceless, along with the fact of where I’m able to dissect it (Smoker Builder HQ) It’s going to be a great cooker when it’s all done.

Re: Gravity Feed Rescue

I like the challenge to see how much better I can make it as a finished product. I plan on putting a cutout in the side to mount a temp controller to. It would have been easier to start from scratch but I’m learning a lot doing it this way, and the mentors I have are top notch. Sent from my iPhone u...

Re: Gravity Feed Rescue

Got the chimney out. Have to cut it off to fix a ledge by the fire box and then can start leveling everything. A couple more weekends and it should be done. Image

Re: Restoring a Double Pan Gravity Feed

There is a ledge in the coal shoot the we are working on and reinforcing the welds to make sure they are air tight. Then start putting it back together.

Re: Restoring a Double Pan Gravity Feed

It is not square and welds were not good. It would probably be easier to build a new one, but this one was the right price, and I hated seeing it just sit. It was not ever used, it was attempted to be put together by a welding class that didn’t do so well.

Gravity Feed Rescue

This process started over a year ago with a call to smoker builder with questions about a gravity feed. I went back and forth between plans, a double pan kit, single pan kit but could not decide. Since I live 30 miles from HQ I decided to take a drive and talk to the brains behind the operation ( Fr...
