Re: GF firebox sizing

Texas - the cook chamber on the double pan build is 34684in3. The actual burn area in the firebox is only 168.75in3, which equates to about a half percent of CC volume. The mini is 12673in3, burn area is 112.5in3. About 9/10 of a percent. Closer to your estimate but that doesn’t equate to the larger...

Re: GF firebox sizing

Diggerg - I did that between the two, its not a proportional difference of cook chamber vs actual burn volume of charcoal.

GF firebox sizing

Does anyone know what the proper BTU Or sizing ratio would be for a gravity fed firebox to cook chamber? I’m sure it’s been discussed before but can’t seem to find yay or nay, or any info relating to it. I’ve purchased both double pan and mini plans. Just curious for other ideas that are constantly ...

With my micro, I also couldn’t get it up to temp. Haven’t messed with it in a while.

Re: The micro smoker

If it was me, I’d weld a type of hoop on each door near the top. It can double as a stop when the door is open (touching the other doors handle) I’d assume you won’t have both doors open at the same time. Once latched, they’d also be used as handles to carry the smoker. Just my .02. I built my own m...

Re: Started a new one.

Do you have any measurements on it? I built my own tiny smoker over the past week, however mines a RF. Followed all of the calcs and it can’t seem to build heat. I’m considering cutting off the FB And building it similar to yours. A little taller and top fed.

I’d second the circular saw personally. Straight, quick, and they don’t get everything super hot

Re: Is there an easier way to stuff insulation into the frame

so far I’ve just been loading it in by hand and using a 1x1 piece of aluminum (I had it as scrap) to shove the insulation down.

If you’re taking the pics from your phone, then take them with your phone sideways. Seems like the forum wants the pic to be longer than taller. So however you take it, the forum will flip it to be wider.

Re: Overspray’s Custom Gravity Feed Single Pan

Questions for you builders, and probably Frank. The exhaust... I know GF or well vertical cabinets in general use the CC as part of the theoretical exhaust. Will it matter if mine exits out the side and doesn’t terminate ABOVE the cabinet? The intake... I have a different plan for my ball valve to s...

Re: Overspray’s Custom Gravity Feed Single Pan

Was out of the shop a lot today but still managed to get the CC framed out. Just have one more bar to insulate and tack in, and I’ll move onto the chute and ash box.

Re: High build primers

You could also just tape off a few inches (cm?) from the firebox and just use high temp paint in that area. I’d probably do that even if you’re going to cover it in aluminum.
