Re: She's really a grill - with a couple mods

Looks like a nice grill - should add some 'panache' to the patio! :kewl: At first glance I'm guessing you might need more intake air than 2 - 3/4" openings. If you leave the door closed for extended periods to increase the smoke flavor then the fire might choke some on you. Grillin' takes more air t...

Re: safety of galvanized material

I just noticed Menards selling a fire ring yesterday over in their barbeque/outdoor stuff.

It was galvanized corrugated culvert pipe. WTF?

Is it just me? - You would think somebody would have caught that already ..... :oopssign:

I would run it up to 165F using about 225F CC then just cool/pull/bag/label and freeze for later. :D

Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

Higher stacks are more efficient overall and I think it helps the cooker's ability to operate...... I'm a huge fan of Center-feed/center-stack designs. They just seem better 'balanced' somehow - but it's mostly hunch work.... :D

Re: Using a wind directional cap on stack

Edgar had a stack plate because I always used him in front of the house just below the roofline and the down draft/back draft was a real problem. You should be able to fashion something with scrap metal and clamps to see if it works first but it's super simple. A piece of sheet metal about twice the...

Now that I stopped laughing ..... I had about half a season out of the peel & stick flat seal so I went back to the fire rope/silicone method. That method is still working several years later..... imho :D

Re: Insulated Cabinet Traeger Conversion

I like it. I have a hunch the stack could be higher up and it might breathe better .... the top of the stack should be at least above the top of the cooker - or you are building in your own 'dead spot' and you'll be discoloring the side of the cooker prematurely. Question: did you mean to draw the d...

:points: Very nice looking work there! I'm not sure about your handle though - I don't think it could support the weight of more than 3 used cars hanging from it before it bends a little ..... (sarcasm warning here) Otherwise looks great! :D

Sniffle sniffle .... It seems like only yesterday he was looking for materials and now its already painted. THEY GROW UP SO FAST!!! Nice job on that cooker. I think you might have hit on something revolutionary and don't even know it..... What if you created a vertical firebox so the sticks could be...

Re: 20x36 Reverse Flow - First Time Build

This looks like some nice work. I would move the stack as high as it will go to help insure more even exchange of "smoke out - fresh air in" for the entire system. The stack shape is never the issue as far as the cooker is concerned - only cubic volume as determined by the overall system size. Heck,...

Re: New Build Thread: Uncle Charlie – Short and Full of Fire

As long as your strap frame seal around the door is mated to the pipe you'll be fine. Some firerope and the seal will be solid. Leave the 1/8" gap between the strap frame and the door for a slightly heavy weld bead - as sloppy as my welds are that's no problem for a welder like me to fill up... :D
