Jafo28....I'll guinea pig along with you. My smoker, FB and trailer are all ready for paint. I'm spraying it all with my HVLP gun but that can't happen now until a few warm days pop up....probably April. I'll spray the FB and light a few test fires and we might exchange a few results
Would love to do the FB in flames, like some of the motorcycle tanks
Make no mistake, there ain't no powder in this Puff ! And... I'm not really a crazy person but I play one in real life
I was hoping that the weekend would be dry. It is supposed to be near 60 from -3 a few days ago but they say on TV now that there is supposed to be torrential rain all day. That only means greater and longer delays for me but I picked up a can of red and a can of the blue. The high heat Rustoleum is about $3.00 less per can but if it actually works even just on the tank section, it would allow for some different paint schemes instead of just all black. Heck, I'll spray them both at the same time and make it purple!

I can tell you my experience with that caliper paint. I bought my current daily driver 13 years ago, this April. I was 19 years old, and just had to have red calipers on all four corners. Well, it's still there and as glossy as the day I sprayed it on. It's definitely some good stuff. And when I was in my younger days, those brakes got stepped on pretty hard. I'm actually glad you mentioned that stuff. I might spray my next smoker with it.
Funny you say that. About the exact same time my son had a honda civic and despite my pleading to keep it stock and enjoy new reliable transportation, among other things, we sprayed the rear hubs with red caliper paint . In my wood pile, the log we used to rest it on, is STILL there with red spray on the end...

The UDS guys are having luck with it.
Granted, they rarely go over 350°,but they use it with very good results.
Of course, your firebox won't be able to handle it.
Maybe try using VHT high temp primer.
It's rated "up to" 2,000°.
But yes,any engine, caliper or header paint would work.
The bitch about it... it's rattle cans.
However, you MIGHT be able to use the high temp primer, then use almost any type of paint in any color you want.
Think pearls, candies,etc.Unlimited possibilities.
I would think the paint would be ok on a gf since it's insulated. Cc would be ok too on any offset. But the temps from the FB would warp that paint in a couple burns. I don't think the high temp primer would stop it from flaking. I'm interested tho to see how this works for you guys. Ghost flames on a smoker would look pretty knarly.
