Curing high temp paint called Mipatherm?

Post by rikun » January 7th, 2014, 4:44 am

Hi,

I have cheap local source for high-temp paint rated for over 1400F.

However the specs say it should be cured one hour at 750F. Any idea how to do that? Wouldn't getting the walls that hot even warp the metal?

I asked them if the curing process could be done at a lower temperature for longer time, let's see what they'll say...

That would be some great paint I guess. Seems like you would have to put it in a stress relief oven, that is about the only thing I know that would hold it.

Some temp! I had my tank up to 500 but I doubt it was universally hot and that may have only been the inside air or exhaust. Would be nice if it could be time cured at lower temp.

Make no mistake, there ain't no powder in this Puff ! And... I'm not really a crazy person but I play one in real life

They said you can also cure it at 400 for 3-4 hours. Even that's probably pretty hard to do, getting the air inside to 400 shouldn't be a problem, but the entire tank outer surface...

I guess I'll still use it, get it as hot as I can and hope for the best ;-)

There used to be a FAB shop down the street from work and they built a very large box with plywood and lined the inside with high temp insulation. They would use a 2 small diesel fired heaters blowing inside the box to bring it up to temp and they would bake the powder coat on large sections of a tower that they built. I'm pretty sure they said it baked at around 400F. I don't know how much money they invested but they used it several times. If you build a fire in the FB, you'll end up with 2 extremely different temps on the CC and FB. JM2CW
