What does everyone suggest on the exhaust? Rain cap or a damper? I almost always run the exhaust wide open and control my temp with the intake anyway but the option IS there to choke it down if I need to. I COULD do both but is the damper really necessary?

Rain cap for my reverse flow and mini-gravity both. I think there is some value to an exhaust damper on a standard offset.

I damper my RF all the time. Just one more tool in your shed to help control temp.

I use my damper a lot also but I built one for a buddy of mine and he always runs his wide open.

Got her welded out and lifted up finally, but I’m thinking I might be too tall? I like the working height but I’m worried about being top heavy.

That was one of my top concerns when building my rig, being top heavy. I seem to remember a mention of a formula for determining whether any trailer is top heavy, maybe one of the guys will chime in.

My rig weighs 1800 lbs and is placed to one side on a 5 ft wide trailer. After taking it on two 25+ mile trips, i determined that it is road worthy. I used 4500lb leaf spring on the side with the smoker and a 1750 lbs spring on the non-smoker side. I hope this information helps you some kinda way.

How wide is your trailer, and what weight are your leaf springs rated?

It’s a 4ft trailer, 46” spring centers 61” hub face, 3500lb axle so 1750s I would assume. I’m thinking now if I was to do it again I would still do a 60” CC but only a 48” WC/FB.

The ''formula'' is as follows, you measure outside to outside of tires and then measure the same distance from the ground up and make a mark on your smoker. If there's more weight below the mark than above the mark then it will not be top heavy, if there's equal or more weight above the mark then it will be top heavy/unstable. This is not my ''formula'' but I have seen several guys on the forum use it and I haven't heard of anyone having any issues.

That looks great! I never even gave square smokers a thought, would certainly make fabrication a lot easier.
