Free Smoker Plans Build

Post by KarateDoc » July 10th, 2019, 12:07 pm

Hey Frank and all you other builders out there!

I just got this email about the free smoker plans and what a great way to get more builders here.

l and I haven't been here in a while but have been enjoying my gravity feed build. Too busy working on a 12x20 workshop so no time for building pits at this time. I did however bought the plans and the upgrade parts to build this in the future. I have a 100 gallon air tank that has been sitting around waiting for a build like this. I want to make it into a small trailer build that I can tow for some small BBQing as the gravity fed is a beast.

Thought Frank might post up some pics here and maybe others who plan on building this pit.

Looks at a piece of meat and wonders how many ways can I smoke that.

Here is my build of the Stump's Clone viewtopic.php?f=56&t=5280

Thanks Frank....I’ll sign up!

Hey all, it has just come to my attention that the plans offered are for MY pit! I built it about 2-3 years ago and have used it as my main pit ever since. I can attest that it absolutely runs awesome, holds temp and is easy to use and maintain. I put it on a cart and it lives on my patio but would look nice on a trailer as well. I regularly fire it up for just my family but can easily cook for 75 people on it as well.

If anyone is interested in building or has any questions, please feel free to shoot me a pm or open a thread.

It has since had a flip up cooking shelf/towel holder and a wood shelf added to the cart.

I insulated the firebox for child safety reasons, added extra dampers between all the chambers, and added an ash pan and log basket. Otherwise, it’s pretty much as designed.

I just received a copy of my free plans. Where do you find a 24" OD x 48" tank/pipe? If you welded up a octagon / hexagon using .25 plate would that work?

As long as it's the same volume

I hate supports and complex brackets so I put spring loaded pull-pins in it. I just pull the shelf up and the pins lock it into place. To put it down, I have a single cable that pulls out both pins at the same time allowing the shelf to pivot down. It’s quick, easy, sturdy and allows one handed operation for putting up or down.

Hey @dirtytires I see you added extra dampers from the fb to the cc and from the cc to the wc I guess then you can bypass the cc altogether? Do you have pictures inside please? I've got the plans also so any tips/mods are greatly appreciated, thanks 👍

Here is what some smokers have. Fast forward the video below to about 2-1/2 minutes in and he shows his deluxe model with the warming cabinet.
The first part of the video doesn't show a model with the WC.
Look's like in addition to the hole to WC they added a short sleeve so that a few round holes can be drilled and a damper rod passed through and a damper welded onto the rod.

Not much to see from the inside. It’s a big black sooty mess in there. I’ll look to see if I have any build pictures but feel free to PM me any specific questions and I’ll be happy to explain best I can.
