If it were to go onto a trailer, I’d worry about the extra stress on your welds between the fb and the cc and the other mount points to the frame. All that weight bouncing down the highway wrenching on the frame if you didn’t hard mount it. I don’t think a couple extra mount points between the FB and the frame will transfer too much heat.
So if I am reading correctly, you are recommending to hard mount the FB to the frame?

Thanks in advance.

If it were mine and I had plans to trailer it, yes I would hard mount it.

Mount it direct. Heat won’t be an issue.

Absolutely. Just need to button up the FB, racks, door, dampers, and final touches.

Get a first cook in then paint.

Hope to do all that by the end of the month [emoji38]

I like the size of it, I need to find a tank like that. Looks good!

24"x46.5"

Oddly enough I found another and will start it as soon as this one is complete!

Of course... I will post that build too.

FB door is all I could fit in today. Tomorrow will be to finish firebasket rails and slide dampers.

Nice basket. Should hold the coals well and give you solid air flow

That's a well built fire basket and should last for a very long time! If I could make a suggestion, you might consider lowering the side that faces the fire box door. It makes it easier to add a split of wood without having to pull the basket out, that's if you don't have a lot of overhead room.

I thought about that after the fact!

Great point and I will modify.

Thanks [emoji106]

I used expanded metal on my last one, and the bottom fell out after a few years.

I want this one to last longer than the pit!

This was the last basket I built (not the greatest, but it worked).

Ditto on the dropped front. Makes a huge difference in ease of loading splits. I have had really good luck with the expanded metal firebox and built my bottom into a ‘'V' shape to keep the logs together for a better burn.
