Nice looking job on the weights. How do you go about figuring out the height, size & placement of the weights to get the correct balance?

Well my way was pretty scientific as someone said to cut tube at a 45, I took the extra piece of box tubing I had left over, cut it in half. Ended up being about 26 inches for each door. Tacked them in place, took some clamps and started clamping scrap metal to the top till the doors worked like I wanted. Then took all the pieces I had clamped on and weighed them. I knew how much a 5 inch piece of pipe weighed so did some math ended up with what ya see and the doors take very little effort to open and still close with enough force to seal.

Well got the damper on the stack today, started on the wood box and finished up a bunch of little stuff. Might give her a wash and some fire tomorrow.

Well did the first burn today, very impressed came up to temp quick saw over 500 degrees for awhile with just 3 logs and 2-3 lbs af charcoal. let her settle down, ended up holding 225-250 for 4 hours with only adding 5 small split pieces of wood. Have a 10% temp difference between ends.

Thanks guys, firebox is deffinetly big enough, but if my math was right its 30% of the cook tank. It dosen't have any problems holding temp thats for sure. It should work out good when cooking if it's cold out dosent have any problems holding temp. My goal was to try and get it done in 30 days, well that didn't happen but deffinetly makin progress.

Design changes dosent everybody try 3 different kinds of door hinges? And dc that firebox is hoss it's huge When I started on it I thought it was too big but it's pretty close to the 30% rule. Quick question for you guys how would you season this monster, I mean It's not like acouple fatties are gonna do it. :wsm:

spray the entire cook chamber with something like Pam....or you could crawl in with a bucket of paper towels and wipe the entire surface with oil....then cook some bacon....sausage.....pork butts....ribs....all at the same time!!!! :grillin:

:yth: I would run the temp up a bit to say 350 or so, and let it stay there for a couple of hours. Then back the temp down and cook something.

Just my .02. :bigfoot:
