Post by Buggs » January 22nd, 2021, 10:40 pm

Well it’s been a long time coming, but I’ve finally got started this week! I ordered hinges so we can start cutting doors next week

Just a reminder, you do not want to mount the hinges before you cut the door. Putting them on before the flanges and gaskets are i stalled will result in a poor fit and the need to cut the hinges back off.

Got a little more work done tonight, mocked the doors up and test fitted, also tacked the stack collector in place.

I really like the looks of the CC so far. Mismatched colors look great. Not gonna lie. I was scratching my head at your smoke collector setup. I get it now. Nice setup. I hope you leave the ends on your tanks like that.

Thanks, when you say leave the ends, do you mean leave the rings on them? I think the color difference is from leaving them in my truck stacked on top of each other and it snowed!

I just like the look. Yes, the rings. My preference. No other reason. I’m sure it’ll look great whatever you do.

It’s kind of a build design, appreciate the suggestions. If you leave the metal raw how do you protect it?
You make have solved my door stop problem, I save the part of the ring I cut for the fire box, I can give the ring back to the tank.

I’ve done one with high temp clear coat and 2 with linseed. Oil. The clear coat looks better to start but is super difficult to touch up. The linseed is darker but is so easy to maintain.

Do you have any pictures with the linseed oil?

The first one I did with BLO is turning a dingy looking yellow. Doesn't show up so much in the pics as in person looking at it. It looks kinda funky.

Nice, what is BLO? Love the Texas shape one the door .

Not a lot of fabrication tonight, but I was able to shear all the metal for the fire box. Will post pics when finished.
