The smoker came out really good. Have you ever used an uninsulated firebox before? If so, can you tell a difference in performance/fuel usage on your insulated box? Orange and Blue are the colors of choice here!!!

Thank you. I have used a unisulated one, not of this size. What i can tell you is for a 10 hour cook at 225 to 250 we burnt 10 logs about 21" long by 4"or5" round, i start my coals with one charcoal chimeny and then no more charcoal i thought that it was pretty good on its fuel usage. Maybe others can tell me if thats good or not, i would apreciate it. To the touch not much differance after 3 or so hours, guess there is to much transfer of heat.

I was going through 8-10 logs every 3-4 hours at the same temp.

Thats about what everybody thought i would use. I'm sure happy that i don't use that amount, i don't have the room for that much wood. We still need to build the wood box.
So you have a insulated firebox now? I used the Kaowool on mine its 1" thick got 50 sq feet for $65

Here are some pics of my FIRST whole hog. I think it turned out awesome there wasn't any left , so i think everybody else liked it to. She was a really small one but hey for the first one who needs to spend 2 or 3 hundred right? We also got some ribs on there with it.

:LG:

OC you guys did a great job, I also use pipe on my cookers (oil field trash). I like what you did with that firebox, I'll try that myself one of these days. Those IR pics made it look like the FB was cooler than the CC that is really saying something. Speaking of the IR pics if you don't tell Frank more about that FLIR the rest of us are going to have to ask you ourselves. And you know there is alot if us right? lol

Thank Frank and RC
The hog was really fun. It tasted good to which is a plus. lol
RC the firebox is a lot cooler, after a 4 or 5 hour cook time you can still touch the outside of the firebox. It is pretty warm but not scorching hot. I did answer Frank on the ir just had to answer him in PM.
Sorry guys i will answer any questions.

What did you use for insulation on the fire box?

Is that thing supposed to be smoking like that?

Found it. Now where is a good place to get some of this. I was thinking of fire brick.
