LOL well it worked out..More on the the master grinder side.. my welds aren't the pretiest but I got the job done... Made some more progress yesterday. My little Makita 4" angle grinder is getting one heck of a workout. I've been going through cutting wheels like crazy... I'm thinkin a plasma cutter would be cool if I build another one of these..(ya think) Hope to go down and buy the 1/4" plate for the FB and BP today..Smoker Tom wrote:The great part is we can build anything we want.
If it works. then you are the Master.
If it fails,,, you are a professional grinder man, LOL
Thanks Rick! How are you guys working around the door seal with these hinges? I'm assuming you guys are building the CC side of the hinge then mounting the hinge directly to the door seal on the door side of the hinge?? I've been looking for a close up pic but haven't found one.Rick wrote:Bullet hinges are my favorite - they should work fine but you'll prolly want at least 3 for that weight of door - just guessing from the pic. Take your time to get some nice parallel lines on both the door and jamb so you can line up the hinges in "as close to the same line" as possible. If you're good the door will be removable for servicing/cleaning.
Thanks again Rick! Very helpful.. So when you say "This process demands you have a door that has the correct curve first." you mean the door should not have an warpage or racking etc... I noticed my popped up a little in one corner when I was cutting it .. I used a cuttoff wheel to cut the door out..Rick wrote:I always build my door complete with flange etc. then paint the inside of the door only and silicone the firerope in place. This way you can lay the door in place (rotate the cooker or use cargo straps) so that gravity or the straps will slightly compress the firerope. Without moving anything weld the hinges to both the door and CC. NOW you've got a pre-gapped door/jamb arrangement that will properly seat when you close it. This process demands you have a door that has the correct curve first. Hope that helps... fwiw
