First you take the number of weekends in a year.
Subtract the 8 times you're cooking for 30 to 70 people.
Leaves you with 46.
Then subtract the 23 weekends the family needs you for something important other than "Q".
Leaves you with 23 so how many of those will you cook for just the family.
If it's over 10 then take half the volume of this tank.
Figure up 30% of that and go find yourself 2 tanks that size or one tank twice that size and cut it in half for the 2 fireboxes - lots cheaper than the $651 to buy the flat steel.

In other words - cook on one and light the second one only when those 8 times roll around - you'll save fuel too.

Also creates the option a year from now of selling one of them to pay for the other one cause you didn't light the second one enough in the past year to justify keeping it.

I could be wrong on this cause 4 out of 3 people struggle with math and I think I'm that 5th guy.

Just my 2 cents .... :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D

Math sucks. That is why I like this site. The calculator told me how big to make everything. Someone should make a calculator out of your ideas there... How often, how many people...done, go get a tank "X" big....

Got the stack on a day or two ago... I think I Need to cut it a bit shorter, although I took it for a test fire today and it worked out quite well...

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

I'm really NOT looking forward to cutting it down (I know I should have done that before I welded it on) But the test drive on it (without any meat) went very well. Temp maintained perfectly, had sufficient draft, etc. Anyone see any reason I can't leave it tall? It get's the smoke well above everyone's head this way too...

I would say wait on the chimney height until it's all mounted on the trailer. By that time you can check for overhead door clearance compared to where the pit calc. wants you to cut it and then decide.
Being able to take it indoors at times can be a huge serviceability bonus. :D

Longest build project in smokerbuilder.com history???

Not a lot has happened although yesterday got kinda boring by halftime so I finished up and just tacked the firebox to the trailer I recently acquired for this. Does everyone weld their smokers to the trailer? I know this is a lousy photo but the firebox runs up flush to the rear crossmember of the trailer. 3/4 of the tank is forward of the axle so I have a tongue weight that in my opinion is perfect and the axle will be balanced especially after I had a wood box, sink and maybe a santa maria style grill and work table to the back side of the cooker.
