60 gallon air tank RF build NOW WITH PICTURES

Post by 63chevyll » August 31st, 2013, 11:16 pm

Hello everyone.
I talked my self into posting becasue I have learned so much information by reading and looking at pictures here

I am starting with parts and materials I have access to. My goal is to learn about fabrication and smoker builder technique while utilizing what tools I have access to.

Doing this work on a budget and almost free will be fun

When done. I hope to have a cool smoker to use at home and show others what can be done with some ingenuity and time dedication

I'm open to any advice along to way and hope to give some also

I'm starting with a free air compressor tank I got for free. Its a bit thinner than I'd like, but I'm going to give it a shot.

I have to fix the rust holes. This is what came from the inside. I

I know what you mean about building on a low budget. I built the one I'm standing next to for about $300.00, but I had to wait until I could dig up the stuff to repurpose, before I could begin. I would have to think about using a tank that is so thin it is already rusted thru in places. These cookers are fun to make if you don't mind doing some hard work. But doing the work on a tank that will have rusted out soon I for one would wait on another. I don't at all want to discourage you, just trying to save you some irritation.

Cool.... Out of curiosity did you plan on two doors or did you want two doors… Instead of one?

Yeah I wanted two door. I figured easy access for smaller smokes at the firebox end. And ease of cleaning if I ever decide to clean it.

The big door overlaps the little dorrt to the left.

Being a thinner steel it was a pain tho
