Well I wound up with 3" guess if I need to I can make a riser to put on the great to get a little more height

I think you'll be fine at 3'', I wouldn't change it.

The smokin Johnny grate was the shortest one I've ever built at 1 inch - works fine… :D

After all - it's really just a gap for smoke to circulate….. :-B

We'll got her fired up last night sitting in my shop with all the doors open I know not recommended but I now know it all works so first off I would like to thank everyone for their input and help and now I can go back and take my time and fix little things that wouldn't matter to most I do have some leakage at the top of the cc door maybe a gasket maybe try to bend it I'm not sure what about if it ain't broke don't fix it I'm not sure today I hope to get some legs on it and put a pork butt in to make a first cook thanks again

That's good to hear, if it's a small leak you can get some rope gasket and seal it up pretty easy.
