I don't know why I never looked through this thread....but I'm glad I have now! I love it (him)! Hope that doesn't come off wrong...I mean no disrespect to your "buddy" ;)
Thanks soilhunter! We've become good friends since last Christmas ...
And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy.

Another comp team takes possession mid May after the next 3 comps that Edna's Kids are already registered for....
So he'll be a couple hours away - but I think I can get visitation rights....
Stay tuned for ELY!

What? Say it ain't so!
Glad I'm not yours, I wouldn't like being sold every time a new ideas comes along.
I'm sure you'll retain visitation rights!
So do we have ultrasound pics of Ely, yet?
BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.
wow I just read this thread from front to back and was starting to feel like Edgar was a good friend of mine and then I got to the end and now my face is sad.
Also way to leave us all hanging with the whole ely thing u know there are
Okay, Okay ..... sorry for the suspense but Ely will be a vertical cabinet style - sorta/kinda backwoods type ... cause I haven't built one of those yet.
The problem with having a hobby of dreaming up and building cookers is that eventually you have to convert the results back to shop space and $$ to keep going ....
Besides, both Edna and Edgar went to really good homes ....

I'm thinking of making my cabinet a center flow again (I was gonna make a gravity feed...)
One question, how long can it run for unattended? I wanna start putting stuff in at 1am and leaving it overnight and I wanna be able to trust till, what so you run it on? Quite keen on stick burning, I can get oak easily, I also have a big stash of coco shell briquettes here too.
Edgar is a RF - fuel every hour is the rule.
Eli is a direct-coupled cabinet design - he's driven by a maze so load it, light it and forget it - except to add wood for smoke.
Eli's maze went 34 hours on his first test burn at 250. That said, he was under no load burning Kingsford blue bag briquettes. You'll have to practice with your coco shell ones to find out. I only add wood chunks for smoke when needed - the base fire/heat is briquettes. I don't know how to work a maze with wood as the fuel since it's so inconsistent for size/shape etc….. An unattended overnight burn will take just a little practice but is very achievable.
Hope that helps….
