Thanks gizmo. I drew up a plan on how to do the door now.

What would be the price range to get a project of this size sandblasted?

Firebox.
I put a ring on the outside and inside of the end of the FB for more surface area for the gasket to sit on. This also solved the problem of my crooked cutting and made a nice flat end for the door to sit against. I did finish the door and glued the gasket on. Door works, no binding! Incredible considering my BAC (Will be apparent when I post pictures of the hinge welds).

That looks like it will work very nice.

Good work.

Sorry for my mental block but I just figured out the bracket on the right side is for hinges. What will be your plan for latching the door closed?

Nice work , by the way

Yeah it's a bit goofy. I plan on extending something out from the left side for it to latch to.
What are your guys thoughts on using a screw-adjustable vent? Pain to adjust? Good for making minor adjustments?

I think you proably nailed it. Good for making precise adjustments, pain in the --- for making those adjustments!

Anyone ever used an antler shed for a handle on their smoker? Not sure how it would hook up (depends on shape of antler) but I think it could be done with a bracket or two. Thoughts?

Here's a couple pictures of what I have so far. It's crude but it's going to smoke meat. I'm also still trying to learn how to stick weld (without someone there to teach). I got tired of grinding off ugly welds to re do (given it's structurally sound where needed). I just want to get smoking meat.

You are some kind of hero to commit to that much grinding (unless you have a plasma torch or something). I hate angle grinding :(

Those welds look good compared to my first welds with a stick elder! Keep up the grinding, it will come to you!

I agree the welds look better than you are giving yourself credit for. Keep in mind we all have to start somewhere. As long as you have having fun, that's all that counts.

Thanks guys. Petesmeat, yes I am very sick of doing all of that grinding. That's why I've given up grinding the ugly welds, haha.
I hope to get it operational tomorrow night and I was planning the first cook Saturday. I guess it's supposed to be down to about 25 deg though so that's going to take some of the fun out of it. When will it get warm!!?!?

It's ALIVE !
made for quite the late night last night. Finally fired it up about 3am and by 3:45 she was up to almost 375 and climbing. It was about 15degrees and really windy so I put an old leather jacket over it for some insulation.
I have two chickens in brine and a pork loin and ribs thawed out. Wish I had a pork should but that can wait. Q view to come.

Thanks for the help and encouragement guys !

Sooooo.... was too excited to eat. Forgot to take the Q-view pics. I over cooked everything but it was still all really good!
Just have to put my accessories on the outside of the grill then paint it up and it's completely done.
