Smoke Stack Dampers

Post by Mo Smoke » March 21st, 2014, 2:16 pm

Just starting my build of a 144 gallon. (see On my way to Smokeville) Got a question about the dampers on the smoke stacks.

1. Do you build or buy them? If you build them, how?
2. How do you adjust them? (I've seen some long pipes on a few where it looks like there is a lever to adjust it).
3.WHere do you place your damper, on top or inside of the stack somehow?
4. Do you have varying degrees of adjustment, or just open and closed?

Take me to school boys.

Self made, on top, and its always wide open when cooking. Never use it to adjust temp.

Here is a pic of mine, I do 1 piece that will fit in my stack and 1 that's the same diameter with a rod and handle to open and close it. I also cook with it wide open.
