My mini RFS build

Post by DIYMan » July 3rd, 2014, 4:58 pm

Hello there. I'm new on the forum, wanted to share some pics of my latest DIY. A month back I run into these bbq smoker things and got interested to try. As always, if you can do it, don't buy it. I wanted to make my own smoker. I have no experience in these and I havn't used any calculators for right measures, so I havn't a clue how it will perform..? Just made one sketch of how I wanted it to look. It is a quite compact size reverse flow smoker. Here is some pics of the build. Please share your thought, negative or positive.

Found some tubings from my local metal scrap company.

Excellent looking fabrication. Love the stack/flu adjustment. :kewl:

I'm concerned about the transfer tube size. Did you run this through the pit calculator?
Looks to me like you may want to add a second transfer tube to get it to temp….. but I've been wrong before….. :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D
Current smokers: Egor (trailered RF) and Easybake (tabletop pellet drive)

Thanks. No, no calculators have been used. I's a 5" tube, and the exhaust is 3".

Looks sharp. As Gizmo said, run it thru the calc and make any adjustments before paint.

Had to test it today, even that it's not ready and I havn't recieved my temp gauges. It seems to work very well. Burns quite slow, with in and ex flaps fully open. When warmed up and closed the intake half way, it burnes really nice wihout any smoke, you can just see the air vibrate of the heat above the exhaust. Hope to get the temp gauges soon so I can test more, see how the temps holding.

I have access to a cnc laser cutter. It speeds up the building a lot. :)

Yep, really cool look to it. Would love to see your comparison of actual measurements to calculated measurements. I too love the damper setup

Thanks! It's just painted with rattle can pain, bought from a local "Biltema" store. Prropably won't last long on the fire box. Specs says 650C...

First test made today with ribs. 4h in 90-150C degrees. The outcome was quite juicy and just right amount of smoke taste. As spices I used salt, chili and pepper mix and some BBQ glaze(marinad?). Wood I used was birch and alder. Tomorrow I will smoke a 2,5kg pork neck. Have to do at least 10h...
