I'm back to the rf smoker

Post by ddavvv » July 23rd, 2013, 2:28 pm

Im getting close to finishing the fire box. Pics soon. I was wondering all my metal I purchased came almost a black/blue dark color. Do I need to sand all that off before I paint. On the fire box will it just burn out. Any suggestions on this?

I believe that is called pickling...
it is fine. most hot rolled metal has that coating. I could be wrong but I think it is from the forming process.

How much did the steel for the fb cost. And what size is it?

A wire wheel or cup on a angle grinder will take all that you need to be concerned about off. Then burn that baby good and hot, let cool and paint it. jm2cw
