need calculator help

Post by Kubotam4900 » March 14th, 2015, 3:57 am

Could some one give me some guidance with the calculation. What I'm planning on using is a 500 gal tank 120"x37" cut in half so 60"x37" is the size. I've tried the calculator but not much success or at least I don't think so. Thanks everyone.

Input 37 x 60 as the cylinder size (Cook Chamber = CC). Select the shape of your firebox (FB) and enter a size about a third of your CC (I used 37 x 20 round). Enter the chimney size for a round stack (I used 6"). Enter an estimated intake size (I used 2" x 6"). Hit submit.

FB differential should show 100% (shoot for 105%). Chimney length 38.05". # of Intakes 5.38 (means you'd need over 5 of that size or make larger). Throat size is the FB to CC opening.

As you make changes to the different parameters and re-submit, you'll see how the changes affect the output.

180.64in^2 is the calculated throat size. So if using a round cc and firebox at 37" diameter the offset of the fire box needs to be this? Will the opening at the opposite end from the baffle to cc be the same? The calculations have been adjusted so its just about on the mark with firebox diff at 105%. Any input is greatly appreciated. Ive had a smoker previously but would like this one to be as near perfect as it can be.

Calculation Results:

Cook Chamber Volume 64512.61
Actual Firebox Size 22579.41
Rec. Firebox Size 21540.20
Firebox Size % Diff 105%
Rec. Chimney Vol. 1128.97
Chimney Length 39.95
FB Intake Area 67.74
Count of Intakes 2.82
Rec. Throat Size 180.64

Yes.
Count of Intakes 2.82
Make 3 of whatever size you submitted or make 2 larger intakes.

Everything looks good.
