*220 gallon trailer build*

Post by BossHogz » June 1st, 2015, 9:43 am

So I finally got to work on my smoker that has been in the planning (procrastination) stage since last November. The last couple weeks renewed my drive to get this thing completed. So, I pulled out tank and broke out the torch and got the bungs cut out and the door hole cut. Here's the dimensions 72" x 30" dia. Did a 60" x 20" door. Now, I'm planning the firebox and shelves while I scrounge up some scrap metal to plug the bung holes.....yes, I said bung holes. The trailer it's sitting on will be the trailer I'm using. I'm going to make some mods to it, but I like the bigger tires!

I'm looking at planning the firebox, as I look for some steel. The dimensions of the firebox are going to be 30" x 24" x 24".
What thickness should I use? If anyone has a link for their firebox creation I would love to check it out. I want one door with latches, ash pan or door at the bottom, pull out basket or box. What do you guys recommend? Let me know what you would do. Also, can someone help me with the firebox opening size? I'm looking at 12" right now.
Thanks,
Brian.

I wouldn't use thinner than 1/4" steel. Be sure to reinforce the top and door with a box that size it will try to warp. I like the door to open the whole FB so I can get the ash/pan out and toss more wood in.

3/8's
Make an X brace on the inside to keep the door from warping.
Plan to have a pic soon. But I've seen many with it and some that needed it

Ditto on the 0.250inch.

I have a large door for the fire basket and a separate pull out ash pan that slides into a slot at the bottom.
