Clear all pipe connections

Post by ABBOV » February 3rd, 2016, 2:00 pm

Hey,

I found a 600 liter tank for my first build. Now there are a number of pipe connections to this tank. See picture below.

Image

Would like to use one connected pipe as drainage pipe, which is the best way to eliminate the rest?
I'm worried about heat loss, weak spots e.g.
In total there are 12 connections to remove, is this worth the work or should i look for another tank?

Please let me know your opinion.

I would suggest grinding off the connections & welding in a plug. Looks like a very nice size tank, should be a sweet Q. :kewl:

If the tank penetrations are threaded holes I would be inclined to plug them with threaded plugs, it depends on how long term this smoker is going to be? If you are anything like the rest of us you'll be thinking about next time before you're done with this time.

I cut mine out and patched them in. It's a good exercise in welding if you need the practice...I know I always do.

To address the weak spots question......I would use either a screw plug or weld in a patch of the same material. Don't even consider weak spots as an issue.

Welcome to the crew, sorry I don't have anything else to offer. The tank looks fine, if you don't mind looking at some plugs that is the easiest for sure.

Making memories.
