FireBox Too Low

Post by seifer316 » February 18th, 2016, 6:00 pm

Hey guys, finished up my smoker last week and she cooked pretty well in my opinion.
Just wondering however if my Firebox is too low and whether that makes a functional difference?
Its fully welded up however I can plasma cut it off pretty easy and raise it up.
Thoughts?

Yeah opening size is all good, just more concerned about whether the firebox opening height makes a difference.

Usually the opposite. A little more room between the BP and lower grate is a good thing.

On the point Pete made, I think we are all assuming the BP is the same elevation as the top of the throat opening. Is that the case?

Hey, if you are satisfied with the way it cooks I would leave it alone.

Yeah so the BP is at the same elevation so quite low overall from the bottom shelf. Had another cook today and it performed really well so I guess I have no issue with the set up after all. A little top heavy if anything but nothing too major.

Cool,
I know we tend to think it seems like it should be one way or another. But the calculator does the thinking if we use it.

Making memories.

I still like my suggestion, if you like it, and it cooks good, leave it alone. As far as being top heavy, have you thought about putting expanded metal on the bottom braces to make a shelf and stacking wood on it to offset the being top heavy? Just a thought.
