I don't want to be a stick in the mud, if it was up to me I would flip the BP over since it's not welded yet. Using a scraper on tread plate wouldn't be easy. The smoke shouldn't mind it as much as you will

Current Smokers: Backyard RF Offset and Hybrid RF Offset trailer rig with Cowboy cooker and fish fryer, always room for more........
will do, I just set it in to see if it fit and was done for the day. need to wire wheel the inside of my tank any way and build a fire in it again to make sure there is no oil left from the air compressor that was on it. then while it is hot use some veggie oil and coat the tank under the baffle plate.
I have been busy the last 2 day's got my tank mounted to the fire box and put them on my frame would like to put another rack in the top, how far down from the top of the c.c. should I make it. I need to get more expanded metal for the grates and make my latches.
I try to keep about 8'' minimum between the bottom and top rack, this allows enough room for large Boston butts. You can go higher if you have room or do multiple racks.
Thanks Bigt I have the room, would like to have 2 racks, your recommendation was close to what I was thinking. I thought I would leave 6 inches, I like your idea better. Don't look to bad for my first build. thanks
Thanks Forty_creek, I made A couple mistakes, I like the way it turned out for my first time. Thanks Rodcrafter I am going the leave 7 to 8 inches between them. i hope to finish it in 2 weeks on my next 4 days off. and i have to make a 3 latches and get more expanded metal for the grates.
Sorry been away for a while, had to work a lot the last 3 weeks. Should I put my thermometer in the middle of the door, middle of the racks, or off to one side? I put a fire in it and heated everything up, the air vents worked good no issues with them, I need to wire wheel the inside and vacuum it out again, then finish my grates season it with vegetable oil and start cooking in it. Going to make my first pork shoulder in it on Monday.
