Today I decided to bite the bullet and reposition the axle supports on the FB. Here you can see the before and after pictures. Totally night and day how this thing will move around. The way it was I was headed for a wreck at some point meat, flames, and beer flying every where.

Also today I welded in the chimney. I made it so it extends down inside the CC but just a bit and I angled the cut on the inlet of the pipe. Hope this works out.

So I started doing some figuring on my cook racks and I have a question. I can make the top rack full width of the available space but that will mean there will only be about 5" between the bottom and top rack. This is due to the inside hinges. Do you think 5" is too close?

It'll be fine for most meats but some of the larger butts might not fit.

Both racks will be removable so when whatever I'm cooking is too tall to fit under the top rack I'll just remove it. Just wanted to be sure if they're that close it would be ok. Thanks for the advise.

Today was another great day on my build. I got the fire brick installed in the FB and keepers tacked in so they stay put. The fire box is now complete. Then got the supports and castors welded to the CC. Really looking like a smoker now.

Nice build. Well done.

Today's adventure was building the first cooking rack. Still have to build a handle. Man I hate running out of material. I was on a roll. Landed bang on 4 inches from the top of the rack to the BP. Pretty pleased with how that worked out.

Today I got the upper cook rack fabricated. I had to modify the hinges on the CC lid a bit by making them shorter so they don't hit the upper rack. Not a big deal. I figure I should be able to cook 14 full racks of pork ribs at one go. Q-view is coming....getting pretty anxious now.

Very nice build that.

And definitely ready to produce some Q.

Today's action was final adjustments to how the CC lid fits and welding the stands in place for the stainless steel De.Sta.Co toggle claps. After the gasket is installed it should seal up well. Still have one to go...

This thing is nice man, I like the toggle clamps. Is the fire brick a more effective way to insulate the firebox? I haven't seen this on a smoker before. Very cool. You'll be smokin meat in no time!

Thanks

What I'm hoping for is efficiency. I have no idea how it will burn but I'm making every effort to make the thing seal at the door for the FB and CC.

I bet it will do really well. That's what is use in the brick pizza ovens and they get crazy hot, with a fairly small fire compared to the size of the oven. This eliminates the second layer of steel too. Hmmm, I'm very interested to see your results from this.
