First build question..

Post by ETarrant » April 1st, 2017, 12:48 pm

First post, long time reader..
Looking to finally try or attempt a rf offset, I have a good idea on the design. It's looking like I'm going to build a square cc and fb, my question is how thick should I use for the cc? I plan on 1/4 for the fb and insulated.

Thks, Eric

If you can use 1/4 I would. Heat retention is great and no concern for warping. But if money and weight are a concern you will have to adjust accordingly. And welcome to the crew. Be sure to document your build with a bunch of pics

:yth: I try to use 1/4'' minimum but I have seen quite a few guys use 3/16'' for the CC. I wouldn't want to use anything thinner than 3/16'' because it's hard to keep it from warping when you're cutting and welding on it.

I kinda thought the same, not sure of the cost but I'm thinking 24"x48" CC, maybe a little bigger, depends on how I decided to fab up the doors. The "Mack" looks very close to what I'm thinking.

Welcome to the crew.
I believe the "Mack" was all 1/4". And like the rest of us you might have to wait a bit for the plans and hopefully the .dxf files and bom.
I do believe plans are "imminent" but I've been wrong before... :D

That would be great, my fab work would probably have to do a different latch for the doors. :help:
