Re: The Great Smoker Build (275-gal. fuel oil tank)

Post by RouletteRun » April 24th, 2017, 11:15 pm

It's been awhile since I posted anything on this build but since my last post I've smoked all the usual stuff (ribs, pork butts, brisket, and chicken) in this thing and I did a couple turkeys for Thanksgiving and I brined and smoked a whole ham for Christmas (which got rave reviews). I am, however, still building on this project. I've decided to take my smoker mobile and mount it on a trailer. I went to Harbor Freight and bought one of their heavy duty trailers and mounted the smoker on it and am nearing completion on a fold up work stand to service the smoker from. Today I added two end tables on either end of the platform. I thought about railings to keep me from accidently falling off the side but I've got some flattened expanded metal and I thought why not make end tables to set a cold beverage on or set trays of food on while I dismount the stand safely. Once I get the tables finished and the stand primered, I'll have one more major project to the finish. I'm very happy with the way it's turning out. If you'd like to see more of this build you should check out my YouTube channel "Chuck Nute" and my "The Great Smoker Build" series. I think I've got 10 videos in the series from the start to almost where I'm at now. So let me spam you with a few photos.

That is an awesome rig you have built.
Great job.
All that's missing is the Q-VIEW.

Good to see someone else likes to paint everything with red oxide paint... it keeps the angry iron oxide pixies at bay while you decide the final colour :D

Although there are quite a few bits of kit in my shed that will probably forever remain "red oxide" colour. Just the way it is.

After13 months, 9 actual because I didn't work on it in the winter I finally got it finished this past week. If I started all over there are a few things I'd change but not a lot, in general, I'm ecstatic with the way it turned out. Even though this project morphed a lot along the way a project like this takes a lot of thinking ahead, kind of like playing chess and thinking three moves ahead. Yes, everything can be folded down and up for travel in about 10 minutes. If you guys are interested in seeing some old fat boy build this project I've got 16 videos on YouTube of how I did it. I hope you guys like it. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... YCND44h5dM

Serious looking rig. Almost need a riggers cert to get to the top.

So only one thing to add is... No Q-view it never happened. :D :rulz:

Oh, yeah! I've been cooking on it since last fall, long before it was put on the trailer. The cooking racks are clean because I had taken them out and pressure washed them and my tuning plates in the bottom. It works beautifully. Hopefully, I can get you that Q-View soon, right now I'm working on building a portable sink system with hot and cold running water so I can become a street vendor with it. Once I've got sinks and overhead cover, both of which I should have in the next week or two and a location, I'm set.
